View Full Version : Social Studies
Smartboy 10-29-2012, 11:07 PM On a bunch of occasions, I have mentioned how, whenever I hear the word disgusting used, it always takes me back to what Julie said about the way that Katie positioned her body at the protest in the third season episode "Samantha's Protest". However, because I seemed to be beating the topic into the ground and because no one seemed too interested in responding, I put the subject on hold for a while. However, I think that, at this point, enough grace period has gone by, that I can mention it again. Earlier today, I was watching a "Happy Days" episode that had been uploaded onto You Tube. It was a season eleven episode and it was called "Social Studies". The character of Chachi used the word disgusting to describe the way that a girl that he had dated treated him. All I had to do was hear the word and my mind went right back to what Julie said right after she grabbed one of Katie's arms, spun her around and said "like this Katie"! Good for Julie!

In the first place, if you are interested in the episode, it has been uploaded twice on You Tube. The one that was uploaded four years ago is of slightly better quality than the one that was uploaded one month ago. In any event, the main plot of the episode was Samantha's dedication to the cause that started the protest in the first place. However, for the sake of comic relief, there was a secondary plot of Katie's giddiness over a handsome boy who was also part of the protest. At around the middle of the episode, Nell, Katie and Julie had also joined the protest demonstration. Nell took Samantha's arm and commanded all of the protesters too lock arms. Julie was standing on the other side of Samantha and obligingly took her other arm. Katie, who had made it a point to go right over to the boy that she liked was standing in between her and Julie. She capitalized on the instructions to lock arms by grabbing the boy with both of her arms. She then positioned her body so that her bosoms were pressed against his upper body and her crotch was leaning against his leg. This grossed Julie out and she used her free arm to grab one of Katie's arms, spin her around and said "like this Katie"! She then looked over Samantha's head and said to Nell "that is absolutely disgusting"! I think that she acted and sounded like the model of decency!
*ROGER* 10-30-2012, 12:06 AM    I'll have to see that episode one day. That does sound like something Katie would do! I know she grossed Julie out a lot!

I really think that you would enjoy the episode. Like I mentioned when I first started this thread, all you would have to do is go to You Tube and type in "Samantha's Protest". In my opinion, at the end of the episode, Katie really received poetic justice! On top of that, I thought that the smile on Julie's face was very pretty! I was always very fond of Julie!

I have noticed that, in the recent past, two new threads have been started. One of them even generated a response. This leads me to believe that there are still some fans lurking about. It is because of this that I have decided to bring this thread to the top of the page. I figure that, since the fans are out there, maybe some of them will want to tell us what they think of what myself and the poster who responded to me were thinking about once upon a time.

Because I see this page getting a little bit of action again, I have decided to bring this thread to the top of the page. I would be very interested in what people think of what I wrote about one upon a time. I would now like to tell you about some developments that have taken place since I first started this thread. I started by mentioning an episode of "Happy Days" in which the word "disgusting" was used and that took my mind right back to "Samantha's Protest". Well, that episode, as well as a bunch of other "Happy Days" episodes have since been taken down. Less than two days ago, I was looking for "Smoking Ain't Cool" which had been uploaded in four segments. All that was left was the theme song! Some people can be real sticks in the mud in terms of demanding that their stuff come down! However, it seems that most of the "Gimme a Break!" episodes that go up there manage to stay on Youtube. It was over four years ago that "Samantha's Protest" was uploaded as a favor to me. It has been untouched ever since! The only "Gimme a Break!" related items that I have seen come down are whole episodes that were uploaded in one segment. I have no idea of the logic of that.

I see that things are picking up a little bit on this page. That being the case, I have decided to bring this thread to the top. I am wondering whether somebody new might be willing to tell me what he or she thinks of what myself and the one respondee of this thread were thinking about a while back.

It seems that, for a while, the posts were coming in pretty regularly on this page. I am guessing that what sparked this is the fact that the show got picked up by a syndication network. However, it has been well over a day since anyone has posted anything new. I am new bringing this thread to the top of the page to see if I can spice things up a little bit.
Hughsgirl 08-05-2013, 12:09 PM I too seen this episode and was not at all surprised at Katie's behavior because she seemed or really was very permiscuous anyway.

Very happy to hear from you! What do you think of Julie's efforts to put a stop to Katie's behavior? I think that she acted like an angle! In Julie's decent way of thinking, Katie should have gotten her hormones in check and kept her mitts to herself! I also thought that, at the end it was very cleaver of Samantha to start out be telling the three females on the couch about what the boy said about the irony of him meeting a girl who he liked while in jail. She knew that this would make Katie salivate! I thought it was great when she burst Katie's bubble! Seeing the very pretty smile on Julie's face was a very nice added bonus!

Yes, I was impressed with Juile, she always seemed to keep Katie in check. In fact it was as if she was the older more responsible sister.

I agree with you wholeheartedly!

In the first place, I am bringing this thread to the top of the page in an attempt to stimulate even more conversation about this fine series! On top of that, I wonder what the first person to respond to this thread did to get him or her banned from this site. I have read quite a few of this poster's comments, and I did not find any of them especially vulgar or offensive. If anyone here knows anything about the situation, I would really like to hear from you.

About an hour ago, I brought one of my old favorites to the top of this page. It was an attempt to stimulate some more conversation since things have started to stagnate. Now I will see what happens if I bring this one to the top of the page. Before posting it, I would like to build on a point that the poster that I am quoting brought up. She said that in this case Julie acted like the older, more responsible sister. I will agree to that. She acted responsible enough to know that when you join a demonstration, it should be because you believe in the cause that the demonstration stands for and not because you want to get close to a boy who is part of the demonstration! Good for Julie!
