I know quite a few of you seem to be active on other true crime forums.

I joined Web Sleuths a short time back and although it's quite active, I'm not real thrilled with it for several reasons, the biggest being I have been attacked by viruses 3 times while reading the threads there. I also believe I have picked up some type of spyware/junk there as my computer has really slowed down since then and I keep having to clean up etc to get it back right.

Are there any other similar forums that really discuss cases like they do on WS as opposed to the few I've checked out that mainly provide links back to Charly Project and similar sites?

I think there are a couple suggestions in this thread: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=283146

Thanks Tracy!

Just as an FYI- I registered with no problem at WS with my Yahoo email.

I'm going to look around on Porchlight some more, but the other 2 links there- one site isn't letting new members register, and the other is under construction. So if anyone knows of any more, please share! :)

You're welcome. :)

I eventually became a WS member using my yahoo email after contacting one of the mods. I haven't been there in months, tho. Things just got so busy that I couldn't fit in the time to read about the cases that interested me and keep up with all the posts. Even when I only had a few favorite cases, I would often fall behind and have to just skim quickly through the thread. I may try going back there one of these days.

I use the same screen name there that I use here. Are you Killarney Rose on WS?

I am. I find it hard to keep up too. But have found some really interesting cases with long threads I found lots of info on. You can really get caught up in it! But the virus thing really bothers me! It only happened there...and my AVG caught it, but still...

If you are computer savvy, you can install Linux, specifically Ubuntu. A good suggestion is to dual-boot so that you can still have Windows around if you really need it for something.

Also, I hate Websleuths. I signed up once and began commenting on a case. A few minutes later I got banned. Why? Because I suggested a family member was likely the culprit in one of the cases. Apparently their policy is that you cannot speculate about family members. I found that silly considering crime statistics say that 80% of murders are committed by either family or friends.

I found the whole place to be nothing but a bunch of people giving condolences. While I have no problem with that, I don't go to such forums to do that. I want to discuss the meat of the cases and it appears that is forbidden on that forum.

Another of the reasons I'm not fond of WS- you have to wade through so much of that type stuff to get to any info that might be there. But I've still not found another site that discusses as opposed to just posting links to article, charly project, etc which I've already seen.

I have never had a problem with viruses there. I have also seen a lot of meaty case discussion going on there...condolence areas are there but I see far more meaty stuff. It is true, though, that unless a suspect is publicly named as a suspect pointing the fingers at family members is pretty much off limits. There is plenty of talk about suspicions and stuff (I see it a lot with a case I am following....drives me insane because the parents are not named as suspects) and "IMO" posts...but yeah, stating things about a family member being involved without having backup (aka mainstream media reports ) repeatedly will be a bannable offense. It does open them up to lawsuits if people start going around saying that stuff...whereas if it is already public knowledge that a family member is looked at or being looked at or arrested that is different. It does make it hard to talk about some cases where you just know that family is involved somehow but but they feel they have to toe the line where libel could be thrown at them and the entire site shut down because speculation turned into accusations and someone finds out and gets angry. I see both sides and am on neither...I enjoy much of the stuff there so I go with the flow.

I found lots of info too. I can go with the flow with the other because I read a lot more than I comment/discuss. It's just the virus that concerns me mostly. Thuisatt, I am so not computer savy, but thanks for the info.;)
