On the radio today they said to dig out your manual can openers because of Hurricane Sandy. In my entire life, we have never had an electric can opner, I don't see the point of it. The manual one is fine and it takes up no counter space. I just don't see the point of an electric one when it takes five seconds to open up a can with the manual one. Just wondering what everyone uses.

I use to have an electric one but it broke. I've used a manual one for about 3 or 4 years now.

My husband bought me an electric can opener several years ago when I broke my wrist. It was kind of a necessity at that time. When it stopped working I went back to a manual one though.

I use an electronic can opener. I have to ask do they even sell manual can openers anymore? If they do, where would you buy one?

Manual can openers are sold everywhere, Target (below), Bed Bath & Beyond, even the grocery store. I prefer manual as I like to control it.

I prefer manual but really like any cans with the pull-top lids. The only disadvantage with those is that the ring will sometimes break off and you have to get the opener out to open it.

I have both but always use the manual one.

I notice it takes a few times for the electric one to "catch" onto the lid. By the time it does, I could have opened the can faster with the manual one!

does anyone remember when you had a key to open certain types of canned food? Sardines, canned hams, etc. OH I have a manual can opener.

Either one is ok. I think manual ones are a little easier for me because of my vision.

I had an electric can opener years ago that used to give me a hard time whenever I would try to use it. It became a joke that it didn't like me. I have a better one now that I have had for a few years.

I hate the key openers and they still use them on the corned beef cans.

I have only used an Electric one and it has been pretty easy to use.

i use an electric can opener, mainly for two reasons - i go through manual can openers like candy/ they don't seem to last very long for me at all because i am constantly breaking them, and if you have problems with your hands the electric can opener is just so much easier.

Manual is what I'm used to.

The sound of an electric can opener is music to a pet's ear. Just turn it on and watch them race to the kitchen.

I'd rather have an electric, but mine broke several years ago so i've been using a manual one. They both do the trick.

I find the manuel types so much easier to store. Just put them in a drawer. With the electric, another electrical outlet to be in use.

We've always used a manual one, I've never had an electric one as an adult, although when I was growing up we had an electric one. And yes, the cats came running whenever they heard it going, didn't matter to them what was actually in the can being opened, they just loved the sound of it.

I'd say if you're going to use a manual opener, make sure it's of good quality. Cheap ones don't last, and they don't work as well, but the one we have has lasted for many years.

I use the One Touch can opener and One Touch jar opener. Both work great and are especially convenient for people with limited mobility issues.:D

Yeah, the jar opener is really cool! It opens anything with a lid. The grip automatically sizes to the size of the jar . Once the grip is in place it twists open the lid. Great for pickle jars! Both of these gadgets run on AA batteries. Both of these sell for around $20.00 each. Well worth it!:D

Use electric. Though do have a manual one on hand in case the power goes out.

well, my Black & Decker cordless electric can opener finally died - thing lasted me about 12 years - so I have to get a new electric can opener; the manual one is killing my hands, and I have already broken one of them this week.

- i may just pop the B&D one open and take the rechargable battery to Batteries Plus and have them match it up - I'm pretty sure that's whats wrong with it.

OH Nuts!

I grew up with manual but my right hand isn't that strong and functional so electric is MUCH easier. My parents have a really good electric that they have head for many years and it works great with no problems but at my place I have a manual that is a piece of junk

Manual Can Openers are okay but I think the electric can openers are way better.
