I did read where Charles Addams gave her the name "Wednesday", based on the well -- known nursery rhyme "Monday's Child" . The best known version says "Wednesday's child is full of woe" . An early version says an early version said "Friday's child is full of woe", perhaps reflecting traditional superstitions associated with bad luck on Friday .
