This is kind of an insane theory that SBTB actually took place several years prior to the episodes' airdates on NBC. Then again, the Nostalgia Critic joked that even though SBTB was produced mostly in the '90s (granted, it debuted in August 1989), it always felt like everything was about five years out of style.
The sticking point to my theory is that in the "Wicked Stepbrother" episode, there's a subplot about Zack wanting to cut school in order to see a New York Mets/Los Angeles Dodgers playoff game. In real life, the Dodgers and Mets faced off against each other in the 1988 National League Championship Series. Now of course, professional sporting events in the Saved by the Bell universe (just like every other TV show or movie) doesn't have to reflect real life events at the time. I just find it interesting that they would bring up the Mets and the fact that it was a playoff game instead of simply regular season.
