First of all, I don't give a flying leap about this woman's sexual preference either, but what I do have a problem with is being told what to write and what NOT to write! We still all have freedom of speech in this country so I will say and write what I want to! I'm sick of being told I can't express my own opinion anymore! I also want to make clear that I have never heard anythng about this or "picked on" her or anyone else, but I just had to express my feelings of being told not to say this or that!

To be fair, your freedom of speech doesn't extend to this internet forum. I'm not saying you're guilty of this - but most online forums have rules and can ban you for breaching those rules ... free speech or not. If you post something inflammatory that goes against the terms you agreed to when you signed up, that post can be deleted and it's perfectly legal - constitution or not.

You don't necessarily get to say whatever you want. You might get away with it, but if I go around calling people racist or bigoted names and troll, that's not protected under free speech.

Like I said, this isn't even targeted toward you - just that misconception out there that people have free rein to say or do whatever they want on the internet without people stepping in and denying them that avenue. It's certainly your right - but that doesn't mean a moderator or someone else won't step in and delete your comment. You know?

You are right. Many people like to throw around "freedom of speech" w/o knowing what it means.

Freedom of speech means that one cannot be arrested/prosecuted in the U.S. simply for their words alone (with the exception of threats, harassment, false alarms...)

Freedom of speech does not apply to private companies, or in this case message boards. The owners are free to make their own rules/guidelines on what they allow to go on within their business.

If one violates those guidelines they won't be arrested for it, but they will be fired/banned.
