View Full Version : Beverly Archer's death? What is going on? Is this a hoax?

This story is not making sense. Today I see a post on her on the Mama's Family board is gone, and the part of Pavan's daily blog from yesterday has been edited to remove the part about her. I also am not finding much out there about her death on the Internet. All this is not making any sense. Was the some kind of a hoax or something? Did she really die? Let me know what really happened.

It appears that it was a cruel hoax. Thankfully she's alive and well. We heard directly from her today that she has never lived in Santa Monica and that she certainly didn't die there. We hope to be able to do an interview with her or post a further update or a video message.

Zoneboy had posted a link to an obit to a page at inmemoriam.thoughts.com on the Mama's Family board on Wednesday. That obit was also re-posted on IMDB. Wikipedia had listed her date of death, but there were no sources. I see now that IMDB listed a date of death. There's also a page at Find a Grave. The problem with those sites is that anybody can create a page for them.

We deeply regret reporting on it. It's a lesson learned. We will not report on any deaths unless it's been confirmed by a major news source or we've verified it ourselves.

I found this in Google that matches with her contact information. She owns an antiques store or at least did at one time in South Pasadena, CA.

Wow, that's crazy! I'm glad she's alright. It's sad that there are people in this world who have nothing better to do with their time than spread false death rumors.

Thanks for helping to clear this up, Todd.

Got an email from Beverly this morning. Ridiculous someone would do this. We will post something from her that will confirm this. A video and/or interview.

I'm very glad to hear that Beverly is alright. It's sad that there are people in this world that would spread lies like this.

I'm glad the story wasn't true. One good thing that came out of it is that Ms. Archer knows she still has a lot of fans out there.

I for one am glad to know that she is ok, I honestly feel like a complete idiot for posting something that I thought was fact without a reliable source to back it up. At least everything is straightened out now and she's still with us. :)

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to clean the egg off my face. :o

Things like that will happen from time to time. I've read things on other seemingly reliable sites believing it to be true & then find out it's not. So try not to let it get you down, and I'm also glad she's still among the living.

Like everyone else, I'm glad that Beverly is alive and well. It's a little upsetting and disturbing that people would pull a hoax like that, but I guess that's part of the cyber world that we live in.

I never thought I'd hand anything to Wikipedia, but fortunately, the death date has been removed from her Wiki page, and the page is now "protected from editing".

OH Nuts!

Glad to hear Beverley is alive and well and A-OK

There's been a lot of death hoaxes out there lately. And this death hoax really takes the dumb@$% cake!

This is really getting annoying and just showing all-aorund ignorance on the person's part to do such ignorant stuff like this!

I agree!
I loved her in Mama's Family and Major Dad!

That's just pure evil. To mess with death like that? Messed up!

I'm glad to report that after a gradual process over the last few days, imdb has finally removed all indications that she is dead.

I will have to say that a website letting Wiki beat them out like this was embarrassing, but with this, imdb can do nothing but improve. Here's to 'em!

Exactly what was embarrassing about it? When Wiki and IMDb report erroneous deaths, it's almost always Wiki that removes the info first. IMDb has been letting people edit their pages for years without requiring any links to the info provided. At least with Wiki anyone adding someone's death to their page or listing their name in the deaths in 2012 section must provide a verifiable source. I will say that I have seen several fake obit postings on both sites over the years and Beverly's was no doubt one of the most cruel hoaxes I've read and trying to claim that an alleged nephew confirmed it is what lead me to believe that it was true. I should've known better especially when I have stressed the need to have reliable sources before starting a thread such as this. A lesson learned, practice what you preach.

If you want to see a prime example of how slack IMDb is then click here (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0074847/). After his death on Feb 9th, they still can't distinguish Peter Bergman the comedian from the Y&R actor of the same name.

I rarely ever go to IMDb. So many of their information is false.

Well, we're all used to beating up on Wiki. But yes, imdb still has at least a little ways to go. Case in point: former pro bowler and "Celebrity Bowling" co-host Cheryl Kominsky, now Cheryl Robinson. Of all the corrections I sent to them, the one thing they put in was about her being in the USBC Hall of Fame. Gosh, thanks, guys.

Well anyway, before this gets completely off-topic...

As one of those guys who had a thing for Iola, I'm dang glad she's still with us! :eyes:

The lesson here is to try not to be so eager to "break" a death story that we don't vet our sources before we post. It seems silly to run with an obituary posted on inmemoriam.com without first verifying it with reputable news agencies.

You're right but I have acknowledged my error more than once and apologized. There's no sense in reminding me about it.

I wasn't speaking specifically to you. Don't forget Sitcoms Online isn't the only site that ran with the story.
