View Full Version : Beverly Archer (Iola Boylan) - Update: She's alive and well
Zoneboy 10-10-2012, 11:23 AM UPDATE:
It appears that it was a cruel hoax. Thankfully she's alive and well. We heard directly from her today that she has never lived in Santa Monica and that she certainly didn't die there. We hope to be able to do an interview with her or post a further update or a video message.
Zoneboy had posted a link to an obit to a page at inmemoriam.thoughts.com on the Mama's Family board on Wednesday. That obit was also re-posted on IMDB. Wikipedia had listed her date of death, but there were no sources. I see now that IMDB listed a date of death. There's also a page at Find a Grave. The problem with those sites is that anybody can create a page for them.
We deeply regret reporting on it. It's a lesson learned. We will not report on any deaths unless it's been confirmed by a major news source or we've verified it ourselves.
I found this in Google that matches with her contact information. She owns an antiques store or at least did at one time in South Pasadena, CA.

Mr. Television 10-10-2012, 11:40 AM Wow I'm shocked. I remember her as far back as The Nancy Walker Show. She was great on Mama's Family & Major Dad. So sad. R.I.P. Beverly. :(
*ROGER* 10-10-2012, 12:11 PM She was only 64, and she died of natural causes? Cancer?
Mr. Television 10-10-2012, 12:34 PM She was only 64, and she died of natural causes? Cancer?
I was thinking the same thing. That's awfully young for natural causes.
Marvo301 10-10-2012, 01:43 PM :rip: Beverly Archer
duckie 10-10-2012, 02:43 PM Loved her in Mama's Family. Rest in peace!
old grouch 10-10-2012, 03:16 PM Beverly was always so annoying yet sweet as Iola. Loved the way she said 'Knock knock' when she came into Mama's house. RIP
Brieannas21 10-10-2012, 03:34 PM Just 64? Shocking and Sad.
Very sad news, I so enjoyed her work on Major Dad & Mama's Family. May she rest in peace.
OH Nuts! 10-11-2012, 07:47 AM Very sorry to hear this. I liked her very much on Mama's family, and like old grouch loved Iola's knock knocks. But what I usually used to get a kick out of were her crazy arts and crafts concoctions, likely toilet paper booties, lol
Beverly really did live a rich full life. May she rest in peace - and thank you Beverly, for the many nice ways your richness touched others - both on & Off the screen.
Leigh Ann 10-11-2012, 09:18 AM :crying: Shocked to hear this. I loved her! :rip:
gidgetgrape 10-11-2012, 11:50 AM I'm shocked too! I loved her on Mama's Family.
megamanj2004 10-11-2012, 04:52 PM As with Bill Rafferty, this hit me out of left field. WOW.
R.I.P. Beverly Archer. :(
I enjoyed your work as Iola on Mama's Family, Gunny Bricker on Major Dad and the guest star appearance on Married with Children as well.
julian bozo 10-11-2012, 05:15 PM I always liked Beverly as Iola and on Major dad. :(
I thought her scene in the Brady Bunch movie was funny she played a teacher who steals school supplies:lol: Bobby catches her. All the school supplies fall out of her skirt. Bobby says something like you have strong thighs.
abeleddie 10-11-2012, 10:14 PM I just wanted to point out to you that the above obituary is a hoax. If you go to the "source" for the "obituary," you will notice that there are absolutely no other obituaries on that page. There are absolutely no credible news outlets or newspapers or websites that have her listed as dying--just this "news site" that's on a free website that can be created by any user. It also is misspelled.
This is a painful, sad hoax.
Sammy Reed 10-11-2012, 10:28 PM So far, the only sources I can come across that mention her being dead are the above page, and imdb, which can also have somewhat-manipulated info (Makes it tougher for guys like me who try to submit info on people that is known to be true, but imdb won't update it).
angiefan 10-11-2012, 10:45 PM i didn't know she died.

Exactly what is misspelled and what does a typo have to do with whether it's true or not? I sent E-mails to 2 people who should be able to shed some light on this and I sincerely hope it isn't true although if it is a hoax, it's a very cruel one. I'll update this thread just as soon as I hear back from them.
80sforever 10-12-2012, 08:15 AM I really hope its a hoax and she is not gone. I never saw anything on the internet about her dying until this morning. Hoping its not true. I really liked her on Mamas family. :(
abeleddie 10-12-2012, 09:17 AM Just remember....
You gonna trust a site that claims itself to be an obit site, with exactly one obit?
Pavan 10-12-2012, 11:12 AM Zoneboy, I don't think this is true. Where did you see this posted? I have had Beverly Archer's people contact me saying this is a hoax and she never lived in Santa Monica and of course untrue...

The first place I saw it was IMDb which of course isn't always reliable so I did a Google search and found the site for the link that I posted. I admit that I should've waited until it was confirmed by a more reliable source but it didn't occur to me at the time that someone would post a fake obit and try to claim that an alleged nephew confirmed it. It's something I deeply regret and a lesson learned at the same time.
Pavan 10-12-2012, 11:38 AM We removed our story. I will get more info.
Mr. Television 10-12-2012, 11:43 AM Someone also posted this on the Find a Grave website although the article appears to be the same one that's listed above.
