View Full Version : Favorite Camden Kid?
PrettyinPink55 10-08-2012, 08:36 PM I am terribly addicted to watching reruns of 7th Heaven on GMC. It brings back so many memories!!!
Anyway, My question is, who was your favorite Camden kid?
Matt
Mary
Lucy
Simon
Ruthie
Sam & David
I lumped Sam & David together because I didn't feel they really had much character development.
PrettyinPink55 10-08-2012, 08:42 PM My favorite is Lucy.
I could relate to her the most out of all of the Camdens. She was such a drama queen!!! Not that I'm a drama queen or anything...  ;)
I identified most with her character and with her character's struggles.
Her character aged gracefully throughout the series, and I'm glad she matured in the later seasons...somewhat. I like how she started out being so insecure and needy, but later came into her own. I often think how ironic it is that Mary ended up being the "bad seed" of the bunch, when in the earlier years, most people thought Lucy would go astray. I know it's mostly because of the behind-the scenes drama that they made Mary so "bad," but still. I like how Lucy became more confident and really grew as a character.
How about you?
PrettyinPink55 10-13-2012, 10:17 PM I guess I forgot to ask why you picked who you picked?
*ROGER* 10-13-2012, 10:34 PM Simon was my favorite. He seemed like a very bright kid with a lot of ambition.
I remember Ruthie thought Thomas Jefferson was the first president of the U.S. I think Jefferson was her wrong answer in class. All I remember is that she actually didn't know that George Washington was the first president.
My picks:
Simon
Mary
Matt
Lucy
Ruthie
Sam & David
PrettyinPink55 10-14-2012, 03:28 AM Ruthie was hilarious!! Her smart one liners when she was younger would always make me laugh!!
I would have to say my second favorite Camden kid is a tie between Matt and Ruthie.
But Lucy was definitely my favorite. I really wish they hadn't made Mary so "bad," irresponsible, and inconsiderate to her other siblings. She kind of redeemed herself in the end, but Season 5, it was hard to sympathize with her.

Mary definitely went through a long irresponsible, rude and selfish phase. Her life was packed with drama, and I found that entertaining.

It was pretty entertaining.
Do you think the Camdens overreacted by shipping her off to Buffalo?

Simon.
Never liked Mary. She never seemed to me like a team player like the rest.

Re-watching the show after so many years makes me realize that they really did the Mary character wrong. I know she wanted off the show badly, but they pretty much dug her character through the mud and made her so irresponsible and such a loser. It wasn't consistent with the Mary we knew in the past seasons. I know that anyone can go downhill and make bad choices, etc. But it seems like they went out of their way to the extreme to make Mary look bad and stupid, really. Like when they had her sitting in the movie theater through multiple shows just to avoid paying her bills, etc. When I first watched 7th in its original run, I was caught up in the "Mary's so bad" hype, but now that I am older and it's been a few years, I realize The Camdens may have overreacted. They were The Camdens after all, but still. Sending her off to Buffalo was a bit extreme. It was ultimately what was best for her, but I still think they overreacted a bit.
Ihavealife2uknow 01-06-2013, 03:00 AM My favorites in order-
Simon
Eric
Matt
Lucy
Mary
Ruthie
Annie
I seem to like the males best on this show. All the females go through phases where they act nuts or just unlikable.
Simon rebelled a bit towards the end after the accident but unlike Mary's character we as an audience could understand how the character got from point A to point B. The writers just really over exaggerated the Mary situation and made it seem worse than it was probably to get back at Jessica Biel for purposely trying to get fired.

That's probably what it was. I read somewhere that Jessica Biel wanted them to kill off her character or at least suggested it to the writers, but they wouldn't do it. They pretty much killed her character anyway!! It was a complete 180!!!

Yeh but think of it this way. If they hadn't sent her to Buffalo, we wouldn't have had the pleasure of seeing Robby become a responsible person. There would have been no Kevin, and no Ben which means no Savannah. I really loved watching Robby turn into a great guy, and fall in love with the Camden Family more than he did Mary.
JO Sweet Heart 08-25-2013, 01:51 AM I don't think that the Camdens over reacted by having Mary go be with Ruth and the Colonel. She couldn't keep a job which meant that she couldn't keep up with her bills which is what led to the others kids being harassed by the bill collector that started looking for her, not to mention the other kids stealing from Sam and David to help dig her out of the financial hole that she got her own self into. Then of course her relationship with Frankie and Johnny is how she was introduced to the world of under age drinking, driving under the influence, and pot smoking. And don't forget about how careless she was with Hank and Aunt Julie's baby by focusing on the bottle that Frankie had left for her.
God bless you always!!! :) :) :)

P.S. Mary is the only one of the seven that I was not crazy about. I did however feel bad for her here and there when the other things happened to her like being harassed and later on ran over by Michael Towner, being sexually harassed by Coach Koper, and being lied to by Robbie when he took her to a motel instead of introducing her to his parents on Valentine's Day in 2000.
