Nell Harper's church was to be demolished by Mary Ellen and her company for condominiums in the episode "Save the Church", but after that...no one mentioned about the church.

What Mary Ellen and her husband Bernie didn't know was...Martin Luther King went to do a sermon during the strife of The Civil Rights Movement so the city saw about it the next day when Mama Maybelle informed her husband and Martin Luther King did preach there in the late-50s. So, the city made it into a landmark and the organ from a demolished German Church was from the Eastern Bloc and it was installed as well as a new building named after Nell Harper's dad.

So the church became a landmark for The Civil Rights Movement and it DID get saved.
