Whoopi Goldberg is moving into the Drake!

"The View" co-host and Oscar-winning actress has landed a guest-starring role on ABC's new drama "666 Park Avenue", TVGuide.com has confirmed.

Goldberg will play Maris Elder, a mysterious shut-in and longtime resident of the Drake, according to Entertainment Weekly, which first reported the news.

Maris helps Jane (Rachael Taylor) understand her supernatural connection to the building by using hypnosis.

Goldberg will appear in an episode slated to air in early December.

Sigh. Poor Whoopi, she never really gets to play a character in her own right, it's always as some sort of "truth oracle" for the other characters. Oh, well, it's a paycheck.

She's recently been on "Glee" in a role that's not like that.

First Look: Whoopi Goldberg Guests on "666 Park Avenue"

It's been 22 years since Ghost, but Whoopi Goldberg still knows how to scare up the spirits.

The Oscar winner gets her creepy on with a guest spot on the December 2 episode of "666 Park Avenue". She plays Maris Elder, "a mysterious resident of the Drake who helps Jane unlock the secret of the building's true evil origins," says exec producer David Wilcox. "Whoopi's an incredible actor, so when we heard that she was a horror fan, we wrote the role for her."

Word has it that Maris will hypnotize nosy Jane (Rachael Taylor) and send her back in time to 1927. But what does it mean for Maris? Wilcox won't reveal her fate, but even if the Drake claims another victim, there's always the ghost of a chance we'll see her again.

Nice to hear. I Love Whoopie because I've gotten to work with her a tiny bit in real life, through my job, which can sometimes involve PR work with celebs or politicians. In person SHE IS SUPER NICE and very low key. Much much softer than her TV personna. And I've seen her do a lot of nice things that many other stars wouldn't take the time to do. As an example: when the settlement house in the project she grew up in had a ground-breaking ceremony, she came to it. And was fantastically nice. NONE of the I'm a big star sh*t. Just very down to earth; she was just Caryn Elaine Johnson returning to her roots. The local girl in braids who made it big. Chatting it up with former neighbors and the like.

I've seen and heard of her doing similar things. I usually don't go apesh*t over celebs, cause the ones who are as*holes are a nightmare to deal with.
