He was missing in back to back to episodes during season 3 which was "The Baby" and "Michael's Big Fall". Production for both episodes were in mid to late September and during that time John Amos was part of a
"Jet American Airlines Celebrity Tennis Tournament in San Diego"
Information from Sept 25, 1975 Jet magazine.

I have never wondered why they were missing in certain episodes, never peeked my interest. But, whatever makes you happy LOL
