My love for Barnum's Animal Crackers has rekindled: they're my son's favorite snack, and I've been known to taste-test them for him from time to time.

My mom said the box was 5 cent when she was a little girl and you had more cookies

Now in 2012, the box is $2.50 and you get less cookies:confused:

you need to remind them that they is a GOOD SOURCE OF CALCIUM.

- or just lie and say they are for your nephew so he stops chewing on your stuff.

Have you tried the Stouffers brand? Dollar Tree has them for $1 a bag and it's 11 ounces. They have them in plain and with icing.

Why not? they're just as good as the ones you get at the grocery store. I bought a bag of them yesterday and they don't expire until April, 2013. It doesn't make sense that you would pay $2.50 for one box when you can get the equivalent of 5 boxes for only a buck. If they were expired then I could see your point but Dollar Tree doesn't sell expired food.

I buy Stouffers and I pay about $1.50 for a bag. I haven't seen the Barnum boxes in ages. Maybe they are squirreled away and I just pass by.

I love animal crackers. I buy them at the grocery store fairly often. What a racket they have going, a tiny box of cookies for $2.50. They should sell them in the regular size box and charge $3.79 or something, although it is fun eating the cookies out of the box.

I know that why it's better for me to just buy the big Barnum bag at Walmart or Target

We get ours in that "SnakSaks" bag, Sol, but I miss the box. It seems the boxes protect the cookies a lot better (lots of broken ones in the bag, especially as you get toward the bottom).

You are right, it's something about the box that is better

I can't remember I use to get them when I was out with my family. I think somewhere in between $2.40 and $4.00

That is so weird of them Sol. Folks of all ages like animal cookies. (I always call them animal crackers - don't know why - cause they're sweet like a cookie)

I suppose one of the nice things about NYC is people tend to be non-plussed, someone could be walking down the street with magenta hair and 23 nose rings and nobody bats an eye.

So if you get a funny look just give one back. It's none of those d*mn cashier's business.

I'm thinking it was because the animal crackers were the only thing I was buying. So it stood out more

Sol, we bought generic (store brand) animal crackers recently. It just wasn't the same! We won't be making that mistake again. ;)
