I know that Morey Amsterdam wrote lyrics to it, but did he write them during the shows run or after it went off?

Sorry I don't have a definite answer to your question. My guess is that he wrote it sometime during the show's run. He couldn't have written it at the show's beginning because the first season used a somewhat different theme song, it wouldn't have fit. That's the intro with the folder full of pictures.

And I can't help but say honestly, the lyrics are not very good.

I've been reading Dick Van Dyke's autobiography, and I'm at the part where they've started TDVDS. When they were having trouble trying to think of what to call the show, Sheldon Leonard was pushing for "Double Trouble", but Carl Reiner didn't like it.

It made me wonder if Morey Amsterdam had this in mind when he wrote the lyrics for the theme song - the - "So you think that you've got trouble, well trouble's a bubble" bit.

I also wondered what was meant by the title. Did it refer to Rob and Laura? My guess is it referred to the workplace/home duality of the show.
