View Full Version : S.O.C. = SLOWEST website ever!
*ROGER* 09-18-2012, 10:18 PM This is the SLOWEST website ever! It is usually slow, but lately it is just ridiculous. It takes anywhere from 60-90 seconds for a page to load after clicking reply, new posts or trying to access a thread. It is just unnacceptable. After I click on something, I get so frustrated from waiting and waiting so I just go to another site, or I walk away from the computer all together.
Zoneboy 09-19-2012, 01:40 AM It happens to all of us, your frustration is understandable but try to have a little more patience. I get irritated by it also but the site isn't going to run as smoothly as we'd all like every day.
ThomasE 09-19-2012, 02:45 AM Ok. So I guess I'm not the only one. I have the road runner service and the page shows up but is delayed by a few seconds. I thought a virus was hitting my computer. Glad to know that its just not me.
Mr. Television 09-19-2012, 11:13 AM It's going okay right now but I've noticed it running real slow a few times over the last few weeks. I've just gone over to other websites too.
icecream 09-19-2012, 01:21 PM Something that would help the speed is moving the photo galleries to a separate site from the message boards. When SO is running slow it's usually the photo galleries that are acting up.

Not necessarily, my experience has been that some of the ads take an eternity to load especially those from burstnet. I don't mind the ads because they help make the site free for us to use but it would be nice if some didn't take so long to load.

I've noticed that a few of the ads really slow it down too, then once it switches to a different ad the page loads just fine. Do you think those slow loading ads do that to keep us looking at them longer?
yankeesrj12 09-19-2012, 04:20 PM The site has been normal speed for me.
retrofan05 09-19-2012, 04:41 PM I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this. I thought it was my computer.
Mr. Television 09-19-2012, 06:57 PM Yea I think it's some of the ads. Sometimes it actually takes 2 minutes or more for the page to load and that's when I leave. lol

Same here...if it's taking too long to load, I just leave the site. It's way too frustrating.
The server is very fast. Any slowness is being caused by the speed of the ads, which we have no control over. If it slows down, I would suggest you refresh the page. I also think that the blog headlines ticker was possibly causing a delay, so I've removed it and will update it manually. Compare the new server to the old one, and I think anybody can say the new one is much faster and responsive. We've had practically no downtime since we moved. Getting a second server is not possible unless somebody would like to donate one.
I also removed the Twitter follow button. That seems like it could have been the culprit lately.
Thanks for checking it out. So far it seems to be doing okay today. And you're right, the new server is so much better than the old one.
Regulus 09-26-2012, 11:18 PM Slow loading times driving you crazy?  :angryfire Download MOZILLA FIREFOX and activate Adblock Plus. The Difference is like Night and Day!
*ROGER* 09-27-2012, 12:44 AM This site has been acting up again today. It keeps getting frozen, stuck or just slow as hell.
gilligan fanatic 09-29-2012, 11:46 AM I haven't had any problems in a long time. Everything seems good on my end
janet42 09-29-2012, 02:57 PM I've noticed this site has been a little slow too. I'm just glad it's not my computer.
Regulus 09-29-2012, 04:18 PM As TJ Mentioned, it's because of the Ads. Get an Ad Blocker (Such as the one offered by Firefox) and activate it. The page loads INSTANTLY, and those asinine "Congratulations, you're the 100,000th Visitor, No Joke" spots are HISTORY!
