Did Bea Arthur have something to do with her Dorothy character being so entirely different from Maude, or was it completely the concept of the writers? Dorothy seems so insecure and vulnerable, and kind of introverted. Maude, however, was the complete opposite. Maude wouldn't put up with Sophia's insults for five minutes and would verbally tear her to pieces. Sophia would be running to Shady Pines faster than a Florida hurricane could carry her.

No doubt! After about a month, she would have run everybody off and would be living in that house all by herself.

No doubt the two characters are totally different from each other, but both Maude and Dorothy gave similar facial expressions when upset. They also raised their hands up in the air when exasperated, which was often! :lol:
