BREAKING: Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures have set their reboot on the Godzilla franchise for May 16, 2014. And it will be in 3D. The move was made by studio domestic distribution president Dan Fellman and international distribution president Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, along with Legendary Pictures. The film got a rousing reception at Comic-Con in San Diego over the summer.

The Gareth Edwards-directed film is being made in partnership with rights owner Toho. Godzilla has appeared in more than 25 films, multiple television programs, video games and book series. Legendary, which has been developing the project, and its partner Warner Bros. will return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner. The project will fall under Legendary’s overall agreement with Warner Bros. Warner Bros will release it worldwide except in Japan, where Toho will release it.

Edwards previously directed Monsters, and here will be helming a script by David Callaham (The Expendables films), David S. Goyer (the Dark Knight trilogy) and Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son). Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce, along with Roy Lee, Dan Lin and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher will serve as executive producers alongside Doug Davison, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.

I hope it is better than the 1997 version. I was very disappointed with that film and how they animated Godzilla...

Is this the old Godzilla or new one?

It was the 1998 Godzilla.

You realize that's a how a lizard is SUPPOSED to look like? I agree the writing was bad and parts of the movie was like a bunch of 3rd graders wrote it BUT the lizard looked a LOT better!

The original Godzilla is such an obvious guy in a FAT suit it's a joke! I mean you know you're watching man in a suit and you know that's NOT how a lizard looks like!

1998 Godzilla was a LOT more realistic eventhough the script was pretty horrid in parts!

Supposedly this new version is going to look like the Godzilla that everyone loves. Hopefully they have a decent script.

LOL..hardly everyone loves it! A man in a fat suit is nothing to love!

1998 Godzilla looked more like a REAL lizard!

That and the 50's Godzilla had Raymond Burr of "Perry Mason" fame.

I should clarify and say us diehard Godzilla fans. The reason the '98 film bombed was because it looked too much like a lizard and not what fans had come to expect from the original Japanese versions.

But Godzilla IS SUPPOSED to look like a lizard not a man in a suit!

He didn't look like a man in a suit to me and from the movies he was like a Dinosaur awakened by a nuclear bomb.

Agreed, comedyfreak. I was expecting the "real" Godzilla, mutated by radiation, which was the purpose of the original Godzilla movie from 1954 movie, which was a way for the Japanese people to purge the fear of witnessing the horrifying effects of atomic warfare firsthand...

Come on dude! It was a man in a suit! Anyone who isn't blind can tell it was just a man in a suit which made it look incredibly fake!

Even Toho said Godzilla should've looked like the 1998 Godzilla did all along! That was a REAL looking lizard and not a man in a suit!

Who cares that it was a man in a suit? You keep harping on that and you are the only one here who cares...What does that have to do with anything?

Because it looks fake as hell! It doesn't look like a lizard like it was supposed to!
