I remember first watching this show in the late 80's when I was a kid. I would watch the first-run syndication episodes on Saturday afternoons. Not only did I like the the show, I also liked the theme song. It wasn't until a few years later that I finally saw a first season episode. I remember the much slower, much more mellow theme song kind of creeping me out. Actually it still creeps me out a little.

But that is the more popular one used when it comes to TV themes such as "TV's greatest hits" or "Tube Tunes" and Parodies. I'm kind partial to it myself.

I never got to see "Charles in Charge" in its original run back in 1984, but I did watch it in its syndicated run in the late '80s. And now that I've gotten all the DVDs of the series and watched all the episodes straight through, I can say that I like the first season with the Pembrokes too. It's not quite the same as the episodes with the Powells, but they are fun episodes to watch too. And I enjoy both versions of the theme song.:)

I always like it when Conan O'Brien would suddenly start singing the song to prove what a dork he is or something like that back on Late Night.

I personally prefer the theme song from the first-run syndication episodes with the Powells:

The slower, more mellow version from the first season on CBS just sounds really cheesy, dated, and shmaltzy even by 1984 standards:

I prefer the original theme arrangement from the CBS version.
