Justin Kirk, meet your mommy!

"Designing Women" alum Annie Potts has been cast as the mother of Kirk's character, top veterinarian Dr. George Coleman on "Animal Practice", TVGuide.com has confirmed.

As first reported by TVLine.com, Virginia is described as a snobbish, racist and self-absorbed mom, though she actually has a heart underneath that hardened veneer.

Potts, who recently starred on ABC's "GCB", will appear during the first season of the freshman comedy, which sneak-previewed its first episode during the London Olympics.

The series makes its regular timeslot debut on Wednesday at 8/7c on NBC.

"Animal Practice" Exclusive Sneak Peek: George’s Mom Visits — and the Claws Come Out!

Ever wonder why "Animal Practice's" Dr. George Coleman (Justin Kirk) is so good with animals, but so terrible with humans? Wonder no more.

In this exclusive sneak peek from Wednesday's episode (8/7c on NBC), George gets a surprise visit from his outspoken mother Virginia (Annie Potts) and her cat named ... "Cat."

Despite their obvious estrangement, Virginia wastes no time bringing out the claws -- and we're not talking about those belonging to her feline friend.

Case in point: "Who wants to date someone who spends half their life with his finger up a dog's keester?" she says "Speaking of, are you seeing anybody?"

Check out our exclusive video to see how George reacts to his mother's arrival and to hear the rest of Virginia's biting remarks:
