Genie Francis Dropped From "The Young and the Restless"

Genie Francis has been let go from "The Young and the Restless" due to budget cuts, according to CBS Soaps in Depth.

Francis, who played Genevieve on the soap and previously starred on "General Hospital" as Laura Spencer, joined The Young and the Restless in 2011. There's no word on whether her departure will prompt Laura to return to Port Charles.



Last month, new Y&R boss Jill Farren Phelps told TV Guide Magazine that there would be changes at the show due to monetary concerns.

"I'm going into Y&R not with a hatchet but with a scalpel in order to make it function as a more economical show," she said. "We have a cast of really wonderful actors but, at the end of the day, we need to look at the entire canvas and decide who is catching fire with the audience. And where can we create fire where there isn't any?"



Asked specifically about reports of Francis' impending dismissal, Phelps said:

"Genie and I had a wonderful talk when I came to Y&R and I think we're really quite fond of each other. She's a magnificent actress."



Soaps in Depth reports that other cast members will soon be leaving "The Young and the Restless" as well, but a rep for the show declined to comment.

This is terrible news. Genie has been excellent on Y&R, and she deserves to stay. Many predicted this when it was announced that Jill Farren Phelps would be taking over, due to the relationship the two have had in the past. I highly doubt it is the money issue. I really hope this woman will not completely ruin the show like the horrific Lynn Marie Latham.

It has been announced that Marcy Rylan and Debbi Morgan have been cut as well.

Good news for us GH fans we'd love Genie to come back to Port Charles. Debbie Morgan can join GH too she could be TJ's Mom and love interest for Shawn.

Kinda surprised by this, but I have to admit I didnt really like her character.

That is really sad but I agree she'd be a great addition to GH again. I'm sure they'd love to have her back and it'd probably be good for ratings.

The reason Genie did not return to GH in the past was because she was tired of constantly playing the victim. She said she wouldn't return unless they changed the character. That's why she loved playing Genevieve so much, and I really enjoyed her on the show.

I'm gonna miss Genevieve Atkinson. :(

Bummer. I've always loved Genie. Maybe she can make another The Note movie for Hallmark.
