Another day, another celebrity who shouldn't be behind the wheel.

TMZ reports that Sally Struthers was arrested for drunk driving in Maine on Sept. 12. The actress best known for her role on "All in the Family," and as a spokesperson for Christian Children's Fund, was arrested at 12:30 a.m. and charged with an OUI -- operating under the influence.

An OUI charge is only used in a few states, and encompasses more than just driving the vehicle. Persons under the influence can still be charged even if the car is stopped and not running.

According to TMZ, the 65-year-old actress was handcuffed at the scene, and released shortly after she was taken into custody and posted $160 bail.

Her arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 14, and as a first time offender the actress could get a $500 fine and a 90-day suspension on her license, but risks no jail time.

TVGuide.com is reporting she got arrested in Ogunquit Maine. The funny thing is I have traveled to Ogunquit Maine many times. You think at her age, she would know better.

I had a friend killed by a drunk drive and have no sympathy for someone driving a vehicle while intoxicated. If she has a drinking problem, keep it at home. I'm glad she didn't hurt anyone.

I know people make mistakes but drinking and driving is NOT a mistake it is a rotten choice at best! If I had any clout what so ever than everyone pulled over or arrested for drinking and driving would not only lose their drivers license forever but they would serve no less than five years jail time! What is it going to take to wake people the f**k up?! She's just another celebrity who turned out to be a self serving loser!

I saw Sally a few years back at a play in Oguinquit, ME (Fiddler on the Roof, with Eddie Mekka, aka Carmine from Laverne & Shirley). I believe she still does a number of plays during the summer at that theater, so that's likely why she was in Oguinquit.

Quite a shame. :-/

Like it, or not, there is at least some truth in these tabloids.
I'll bet that being a celebrity, she'll beat the rap!

Maine Prosecutors Dismiss Sally Struthers' OUI Charge
by Scott Dolan -- Staff Writer
9/5/13

Prosecutors have dismissed a drunken driving charge against celebrity actress Sally Struthers as part of an agreement in which she pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of driving to endanger without ever having to appear in court personally.

Attorney John Webb appeared in York County Superior Court on Struthers' behalf on Aug. 28, weeks ahead of her scheduled trial on Sept. 23, and entered the agreement for her.

Struthers, 66, of Los Angeles, was sentenced by Justice John O'Neil to pay $1,210 in fines and fees, which was paid immediately. Her driver's license was also suspended for 30 days, effective on Sept. 3.

Struthers is a frequent performer at the Ogunquit Playhouse, appearing most recently in "Thoroughly Modern Millie" in June and July. She was arrested shortly after midnight on Sept. 12, 2012, on Route 1 in Ogunquit for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Struthers, best known for her role as Gloria Stivic in the 1970s sitcom "All in the Family", was starring at the time of her arrest in Dolly Parton's "9 to 5: The Musical" at the Ogunquit Playhouse.

Struthers' plea agreement had not been scheduled for a court date and she had previously requested a trial, through court filings by her attorney.

Webb did not return a phone message Thursday seeking details on how the plea deal came about.

The prosecutor, Assistant District Attorney Linda Donovan, also did not return a phone message seeking comment.

Had Struthers gone to trial, jury selection was scheduled to begin on Sept. 23.

I've had a DUI when I was 21...and I'm not an evil person. People make mistakes, and a "OUI" is a stupid charge, IMO.

She was pretty cute back in the day. Problem was that the clothes in the early 1970s were hideous.

She is also a hoarder and should sell what ever she has so she could get her act back together.

Hopefully she has learned and lucky to have the charges dismissed.
