Do you think Pearl was supposed to be wealthy by Hill standards? She seemed to have it SO MUCH better than Jed and his family.

I kinda saw Pearl as the Mrs. Drysdale of the Hills.

Pearl's house in the hills was certainly much nicer than Jed's cabin. And she did own her own piany! I suspect the late Mr. Bodene (Jethro and Jethrene's father) must have been one of the more well off Hill folk and left his "wealth' to Pearl when he passed.

If you watch the early black and white episodes, you'll see a scene where Jed said Pearl sold some land and "made a pot of money" .

How come Jethro didn't live with his mother? I can understand him livivng with Jed and them after Jed became rich so Jethro could have a better life but he lived when them in the cabin in the hills. And home come Pearl didn't live with Jed and them in Becerly Hills? I know she visited sometimes.

Then when they returned to Beverly Hills, they took Pearl (and Jethrene) with them, for an indefinate stay. As far as I know, Pearl may have stayed on as a regular, if Bea Benederet didn't get cast on Petticoat Junction.
In the storyline Pearl took Jethrene back to the hills to find her a husband. (I think they wanted to get rid of the Jethrene character).

Jethro did NOT live at the cabin with them when they lived in the Hills, he lived with Pearl.

He only stayed with them at the cabin when they went back to visit b/c Pearl was letting Mr. Brewster stay with her at her house, there was a scene where she asked Jed if Jethro could stay with him.

Pearl sent Jethro to drive Jed's family to California and live with them for general purposes . I remember one episode where Pearl and Jethrine moved to Beverly Hills to live with Jed . I thought they were missing from the next episode without an explanation . I decided the producers didn't want two extra characters . I also decided everybody wanted to spare Max Baer the experience of having to play Jethro AND Jethrine .

Yes, Pearl moved back to the Hills, she was occasionally refered to, or Jed or Granny would be seen talking to her on the phone. She even made one last appearance in a season 6 episode.

I guess we can assume she wanted to stay back, to be close to Jethrene. I think we should also assume Jed provided for her so she could live pretty comfortably.
