Can anyone recommend a good one? My family's looking to buy one, and just wondered if any of you had one you liked. :)

We have a Toshiba DVD player, and we like it a lot. We haven't had any problems with it. :)

Here's some advice - cheaper doesn't necessarily mean better.

Some of the ones under $100 are under $100 for a reason. Those cheaper DVD players tend to be VERY slow in loading speed and have difficulty reading multi-layered discs.

Just a word of warning.

If you're serious about movies and DVD's then do not get a cheap player. Granted, some cheap players can be good value for money but the majority of them will be slow, have very few extra features and won't last that long either. You will be much better off in the long run if you buy a more up-market player.
I recommmened you shop around - don't buy the first player that you see. Have a read at some books or magazines that reveiw home cinema equipment and see which players got the best reveiws. Perhaps make a list of the ones you would be interested in buying before you actually head down to the shops. Basically, make sure you do some research before you hand your money over.
I own a Sharp DV620-H and I'm very pleased with it. It's an excellent player.

so i have a couple dvd players, ones a panisonic and we got it like the first year dvd players came out, i find it very good and relible and have not had any problems with it. My brother and I both have sharp dvd players and he has an okay no problems jus no special features, while i went the exter mile and got a loaded one and love it!!! I think that sharp is a very good brand but i agree with Mossopp to do some research

I have one installed into my computer and I believe it's some kind of Sony one...and as for my other one, *runs to TV* it's an Oriton.. I like it. A lot. It's not slow at all :cool:

Do you mean "Oritron"? I have an Oritron-600 DVD player in my living room and it's a pile of junk! It keeps freezing up all the time.

Yea that's what I ment... but really? Mine seems really fast and really good. Never freezes up on me... hm....

Thanks for the suggestions and advice. I've got a Consumer Reports mag and buyer's guide, so I'll do some comparison shopping. :)

My DVD player is an APEX model AD-500W and it's cool...I don't know how much it cost, cuz uhhh, it was a gift.
