Where does "The Office" and "Seinfeld" rank?

The writer obviously never saw any sitcoms that aired on NBC before the 1980's.

Yeah, that's true. I would say this is a pretty good list of the past 30 years, though.

I mean, they're the best ever, so yes.

I'm not a big fan of this list though. I'd put Community & 30 Rock higher for sure. I don't know about Family Ties being in the top 5 either. It's a fine show, but top 5 material...eh.

How can everybody be forgetting "Get Smart?" I'd rank that only behind "Seinfeld" in the Post's list ...

I love Parks and Recreation, but I don't think its the best NBC has ever had.

The Office? Parks and Recreation? 30 Rock? Community?

Really?! Seriously?! :confused:Those 4 shows combined are less interesting than watching paint dry. I'm glad The Office and 30 Rock are ending this year. With Animal Practice and Go On NBC is finally getting back to comedies worth watching.

I'd put I Dream of Jeannie and Chico and the Man on that list too. I just put Friends on my list ( even though I hate it) because it was a big hit.

I think that's a fair list from the last 30 years but it does ignore pre-1980. Of course NBC didn't have many great sitcoms before then anyway.

This would be my list:

1. Friends
2. The Office
3. Cheers
4. Get Smart
5. Parks and Recreation
6. Mad About You
7. I Dream of Jeannie
8. The Cosby Show
9. Newsradio
10. Frasier

1. I Dream of Jeannie
2. Get Smart
3. The Cosby Show
4. Night Court
5. Wings
6. Cheers
7. A Different World
8. The Golden Girls
9. The Facts of Life
10. Family Ties

JUST missing: Newsradio, Frasier, Mad About You, 227.
Friends and Seinfeld don't even make my top 100. HATE them.

They haven't many afterwards either. All-time lists like this that ignore the entire spectrum are redundant. If the article were titled Top 10 NBC sitcoms of the last 30 years then I'd have no issue with it.

The writer obviously never saw any sitcoms that aired on NBC before the 1980's.

She does state at the top of her second paragraph that her list of sitcoms all date from "the advent of must-see comedy blocks in the early 1980s". Also an editor's update states that the headline is misleading: "This list reflects the best of the last 30 years. Hence, no Get Smart."

I noticed though that in its whole tv history, NBC was not really a network known for sitcoms until the 1980s. In fact, only two NBC sitcoms ever ran more than five seasons (The Life of Riley (1949-50, 1/1953-58) and Sanford and Son (1/1972-77)) before Diff'rent Strokes surpassed the records of those sitcoms in 1984, running on the network until 1985 (and having a final season on ABC after that). Cheers and Frasier are tied for the title of longest-running NBC sitcom of all time, eleven seasons each.

Cheers had 11 seasons, Friends had 10 Seasons not 11. Frasier had 11 Seasons and ties Cheers for the Longest.

I don't see how I missed that unless it was added after I first clicked the link.

That's what I said, Frasier, not Friends. I never said that Friends had 11 seasons. I have read that NBC had to beg the Friends producers and WB to get to S10, paying $10 Mil licensing fee per episode so each actor could be paid $1 Mil for each.

What....No Sanford and Son? This was one of greatest sitcoms ever! This was a show that blacks and whites both loved, and it was funny as hell. I am white and honestly, my parents did not watch "black shows" (like The Jeffersons or Good Times) but Sanford we loved. That right there shows that this writer doesn't know what the hell she is talking about.

There is nothing on that list pre-1983 (or so). NBC is actually the oldest television network which has been broadcasting television for almost 65 years (since the late 1940's). Now, if she said the best shows in the past 30 years, I can see that. Community? Even my beloved Parks and Recreation is not one of the Top 10 TV shows from NBC's history.

There are many, very good shows from the 1950's, and even the early 1950's that I have discovered and enjoyed. I saw The Milton Berle Show and it was hilarious. Bob Hope was a star on NBC. What about the legendary (and dated) Laugh In?

Not to be negative, but I never understood why people like "Scrubs" so much. In China, I bought some DVD's and to me the show is just dreck (in my opinion). Just not funny, or just good. I even watched an episode with a friend who basically is of the same opinion as myself. Now, I do like Neil Flynn as "The Janitor" now that he is in The Middle.

The Cosby Show should have been at the top of that list. Hands down! Cheers and Seinfeld should tie for second.
