View Full Version : Some (Car) Changes
Fleet 09-08-2012, 06:47 PM Since there are not many cars threads here, this is an update about my (4) cars.
I have decided to put the '66 Plymouth Fury VIP up for sale by next year. I like it and it's fun to drive (the 383-4 bbl engine has loads of torque) but 4 cars is just too much for one person, especially when I don't drive everyday.
Will definitely keep the 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy-Five Limousine. A very rare (and elegant) car so it's worth keeping. I've owned it since 1999 and it's driven about every 10-14 days.
Will also keep the 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. I would only sell that if I found a 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy-Five Limousine with a landau roof to replace it (which isn't likely to happen).
As for the 4th car, 1995 Lincoln Town Car, I will keep that, too. Possibly will have it repainted for two reasons. One, the paint is oxidized and two, I don't really like the gray color. If it's repainted, I would pick the 1995 Lincoln dark blue. That would really make it sharp-looking.
Below are photos of my cars to illustrate and for comparison purposes.
*ROGER* 09-08-2012, 07:15 PM The 1976 Cadillac is one cool car! I love it. :)

The limousine? Yes, it's my favorite car I've owned. Even though I've only owned 7 cars since driving.
The rear compartment of the limousine is huge and I really like the black crushed velour rear seat.
Here are some more "exclusive" photos, since I haven't posted photos of it for quite a while:
Penny Lane 09-09-2012, 11:15 AM Cool cars Tony! They sure don't make 'em like they used to! Now days Cadillacs are the same size as almost any other car. A big shiny Cadillac used to be a status symbol! Oh well, times change. I still miss my hubby's '67 Chevy Super Sport convertible . Now THAT was a car!

Thanks, Marlene.
Yes, sad to see what happened to Cadillac... they haven't made a true full-sized car for years. (The DTS was mid-sized and a few inches shorter than my '66 Plymouth.)
It's truly a good thing that classic cars (including Cadillacs) can still be seen and owned.
Speaking of a Chevy, here is a '65 Impala I saw at last Friday's weekly car show. Looked to be in very good condition...
retrofan05 09-09-2012, 08:27 PM My parents had a 1995 Lincoln Town Car in navy blue. It was an attractive car.
Penny Lane 09-10-2012, 01:10 PM Thanks, Marlene.

My hubby had a '65 Chevy Impala almost identical to that one! Unfortunately during a huge snowstorm('67) he got stuck on the railroad tracks .He got out of the car but a train hit the car and dragged it a way down the tracks! The original railroad crossing post still stands there . It is slightly bent from his car bumping into it. So every time that we cross those tracks it of course brings back memories. After he lost that car that's when he got the Super Sport.

Wow, too bad that happened. Let's be glad that are others that have survived over time and can be enjoyed.
I never know what car I'll see next at that car show. There usually is a "surprise" at the gathering almost every week.
Penny Lane 09-11-2012, 03:06 PM Those old steering wheels would take up the entire front seat in a car now days! They were huge!
Fleet 09-13-2012, 01:04 AM Yes, they were huge.. and stylish!
How about this one on a '56 Chevy (and the dash)...
Dr. John Becker 09-19-2012, 05:21 PM Awesome cars! Those are true classics. Chevys and Pontiacs are my two favorite car brands.

Yes, a lot good Chevys and Pontiacs in the '70s and earlier.
My plan on reducing my collection is spreading among some of my car friends!
One may sell his '66 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham which he has owned for 15 years (he has two other vehicles). This Fleetwood has the walnut wood paneling and rear footrests. The original interior was brocade and leather; he had it redone in brocade and vinyl. A high-mileage car at 218,000 but it still has the original transmission, never rebuilt. Engine was rebuilt 42,000 miles ago. See photos.
The other friend plans to sell his low-mileage (4,800) Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance. And his two 1968 Fleetwood Broughams. He has 8 cars and that would bring it down to 5 cars which is much more reasonable!
Fleet 09-21-2012, 03:15 AM Here are some photos of my friend's '76 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance which I mentioned before. Very low miles (4,800). Soft and plush seats... you won't find seats like this on new cars! A long car with a 133" wheelbase and stretching 233.7" long overall, over 19 feet. A true 6-passenger car with over 5 feet of shoulder room, front and rear.
Schmoopie 09-21-2012, 03:51 AM Wow, awesome cars! I especially love the black one in the first picture! And the blue one in front of the Big Boy is cool too! Forgive me for not naming the make and model as I'm not that good with cars! But as for myself, this is the car that my husband and I are going to buy... a Honda Fit. We currently have a Toyota Echo and although I love it, it is 10 years old. Never had a problem with it and if we can't get a good trade in on it, we may just keep it. We've gone without a second car for several years now but it would be nice to have a second one just in case.
