Hello everyone,
I was cleaning out my basement and found some vhs tapes of old unsolved mysteries episodes and came across a case (think it may have been a special alert or something) and there was this family who was hit by a truck trying to pass them. 2 little girls in the car were killed. the driver kept on going. i think the last name was tumblevon or tondlevold I couldnt make it out. I was wondering if the case was ever solved and the driver found?

the case involving a man with the last name of Tondevold had nothing to do with the death of two girls in a car. He was a man who stole money from Ellen Barry.

I realize that...the last name of the girls in the segment sound like that name...I'm trying to find info on whether the culprit who basically hit and ran has been found. i know the last name started with a T

The 2 girls were Chansami and Abby Thammavong. On August 6th, 1998 in Arizona, their family was driving a U-haul truck and a big rig truck barreled down the highway and ran them off the road, killing the 2 girls. The rest survived. The episode aired on April 16th, 1999. The suspect's vehicle is described as a blue/white GMC. He or she still has not been identified/captured.

Is that definitely how their name is spelt? I cant find anything online except the wiki page, surely there must be other old news articles or something?

Here's a birth record for Abby Thammavong: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VLN6-M7Y
The date of birth matches that of Abby, who was 6 years old when she died.
I found this too:
MasterPlan working with Unsolved Mysteries
On August 6, 1998, Chom Ping Thammavong was driving his wife and
their four children to Wisconsin from Bakersfield, California. He was
driving a Toyota 4-Runner with a U-Haul trailer attached. At 2:00 a.m., he
was traveling east on I-40 near the Arizona/New Mexico border. There were
few cars on the road; Chom Ping was driving in the fast lane. Suddenly, he
looked in the rear-view mirror and noticed two trucks quickly approaching
him. He moved over to the slow lane to avoid them. Without warning, one of
the trucks slammed into the back of the U-Haul, causing the vehicle to go
out of control. The 4-Runner flipped over and the two youngest children,
Chansamai, 9, and Abby, 6, were thrown out the windows and killed.
Both trucks fled the scene of the accident. The only evidence left behind
were pieces of the truck's bumper that were found strewn across the highway. Who was the mystery driver who killed Chansamai and Abby Thammavong?
If you have any information about this case, please contact the Arizona
State Police, or call the Unsolved Mysteries phone center at 1-800-876-5353.

No this case was never solved. The post by 1990 UM Fan is prettt accurate. I was one of the surviving children in that car accident. I want the person who were involved to come forward so I can have closure. It’s been more than 20 yrs and I am still tormented by what happened that day.
