He only changed his clothes once in four years.

:) And let's not forget the long sleeved version of his trademark T-shirt and other winter outfits that he wore in Christmas episodes or the suit and tie he wore in the classic "Open House" episode.

Thank you both for reassuring me a little bit. I'm glad to know he was clean, at least. I guess the Mitchells really hated shopping for clothes for their son, or didn't have much imagination. Or maybe they had a tight budget and they bought his clothes in bulk (while spending freely for their own). But that doesn't excuse them for waiting three years to comb his hair. :)

Thanks for the laugh!     I seriously needed that after the day I had today! I love this show and haven't watched it in ages. Should probably find the time to do that some time.

I've really started getting into the reruns now that I have Antenna TV. And despite what a lot of fans think about the Gale Gordon version of Mr. Wilson (yes, I know he is playing the brother)--I enjoy him a lot and this is the least crusty of his TV characters--vs Osgood Conklin or Theodore J. Mooney/Harrison Otis Carter.

Gale Gordon did a good job of stepping in for Joseph Kearns and I appreciate the fact that the producers made him his brother instead of just pretending like he was the same character. The downside was poor Sylvia Field got the ax after season three. They really should have tried to fit her in somehow.

On the subject of Dennis Mitchell not changing his clothes and stinking. Well, remember he also hated taking baths so he really must of stunk.

Oh, I can't imagine Alice Mitchell (at least the one played by the lovely Gloria Henry) would tolerate any of that. She'd just point to the bathroom upstairs and say with resolve in her voice: "March!" And Dennis was too good of a boy not to listen to his mommy.
