View Full Version : Battle of The Hollywood Squares Spin-offs let'swatchtv 08-30-2012, 05:07 PM which version did you enjoyed better the one with the "costumed" celebs or the one where the game show...becomes a party? vote and comment howilu 08-31-2012, 10:34 AM I haven's seen a lot of The Storybook Squares or Hip Hop Squares but to me in 1969, NBC was trying to capitalize on the success of Hollywood Squares in daytime so Heatter/Quigley, who produced a kids version of Video Village and Shenanigans came up with The Storybook Squares. Though it wasn't successful on Saturday morning, it returned on the daytime version about once a year. As for Hip Hop Squares, I only saw a few minutes online and it's a valiant attempt to modernize a classic format. The original, as well as other incarnations were comedy driven and to me it seemed that it was more music driven. let'swatchtv 08-31-2012, 04:31 PM I haven's seen a lot of The Storybook Squares or Hip Hop Squares but to me in 1969, NBC was trying to capitalize on the success of Hollywood Squares in daytime so Heatter/Quigley, who produced a kids version of Video Village and Shenanigans came up with The Storybook Squares. Well, yes. According to Peter Marshall, who hosted both the Storybook Squares and the regular Hollywood Squares, the people in the squares would dress up as other characters from literature or from television, and while it was an interesting concept, both Marshall and announcer Kenny Williams often had to reintroduce the characters very frequently, and this left very little time for actual game play. let'swatchtv 09-06-2012, 02:13 AM Well, yes.
