For the life of me I can't understand how Clara remained married to Joe. He was extremely cheap, controling, manipualtive. It was Joe's way or the highway. I think if she used Dobson and Kelly she could have had a case of mental abuse. No wonder she spent so much time at the woman's club!

Divorce was not permitted in the TV world of Ozzie and Harriet. Lyle Talbot had a great TV career and perhaps did overplay the Joe character at times, but that was meant to be in direct contrast to the easy going Ozzie character. Towards the end of the TV show run, I always thought that Ozzie and Joe were not as good as the earlier shows and I always felt that Don DeFore was much better as Ozzie's foil than Lyle Talbot.

True. Joe would infuriate Ozzie. "That gosh darn Joe Randolph!!" Thorny was much more easy going. Nothing against Lyle Talbot, of course, but it seemed Don DeFore had better chemistry with Mr. Nelson.

Yeah...in real life, someone like Clara would've gotten all women's lib in the 60's and left Joe behind!

OH Nuts!

I hear ya! I didn't like Joe either; for me it was a toss up who was the bigger mooch, him or Wally. IMO, the man invented the word irritating.

Clara could deal with Joe because she didn't waste any time putting her foot up his a** any time he got out of line; lol I could always hear the pans flying. And that screechy voice, which I just loved because it helped put a firecracker under El Cheepo's butt; forcing him to get it together FAST. Also thought Clara was kinda cute for a gal her age and could have done A LOT better than dumpy-frumpy Joe. But, hey, this is TV, not necessarily supposed to be logical!
