Look, I understand that you have to show kids shows on tv. I understand that, I get it and fully support it but dont you think enough is enough now. They have an entire section On-Demand for kids and I think if my calculations are correct, there are 12 channels that for kids. 12. Dont you think thats a bit much?? I understand give kids variety and stuff but I mean, really. What kid is going to spend his or her time watching cartoons?? They have chores to do, homework etc. I dont see how they can have all these channels with all these shows when these kids cant watch them because they are either too young or in school. I just think its a little too much now.

I don't know. When I was a kid we had Saturday morning cartoons and maybe a couple after school. We did have Captain Kangaroo in the mornings and PBS too. Times have changed. I think the children's networks are probably geared to kids of all different ages. I don't watch any of them .

That's pretty much how it was when I was a kid. I watched cartoons on Saturday mornings & before school and when I was either home sick from school or had the day off, I watched PBS & Nickelodeon. We also had the Captain Chesapeake show, here in Maryland he was an immensely popular kids' show host.

It seems that now there's a lot more networks on for older kids and pre-teens as opposed to toddlers, preschoolers and elementary school kids. That's how it feels to me, but since I don't have kids, maybe I'm wrong.

Now, if there could be a kids' cable channel that had something suitable for children for a change, I'd be happy.

I must agree. My grandchildren watch a few shows geared towards their age but their parents don't approve of many of the so called shows on that are intended for them.

Last year a friend of mine had to cancel her subscription to cable. Her Children missed their programs, so I gave her almost 30 Children's Shows on DVD (Mostly Filmation and Hanna-Barbara Cartoons made before the "EI" Mandate) as a Christmas Present. The Kids enjoy them more than they did the programs they used to watch, and their grades have gone UP!

Yes, I think so. There's so much to pick from, you need almost as much time to find when things are on or decide what to watch as it takes to watch a show.

There's too much of everything these days. Way too many choices and options.

I agree with you. And, I also agree with noveel. About there being more shows. But, they are not as good as the old ones. Kids shows are horrid now days.

I grew up with Clarissa Explains It All, Hey Arnold, All That, Are You Afraid Of The Dark etc, etc..and they were great. Stuff here lately. Stinks. I don't understand why kids like it at all.

To date my age, I grew up with Captain Kangeroo, Bozo the clown, Romper Room, and in this area Boomtown, with Rex Trailer. I am not as old as Ding Dong School though. As I recall most shows were on early in the morning, now taken over by Good Morning America type shows. Weekends were the Cartoon shows of Bugs Bunny and Mr Magoo,

Those were the good ole days. I wish I had Captain Kangeroo, Bozo the clown and Romper Room on DVD for my grandchildren to watch. We have found some of the old classic cartoons for them, they love em!
I buy as many of the classic shows on DVD that I can find. The latest I got them was Mr. Belvedere TV show and they are having a ball watching it.

I hear you CommonTater. Groing up in the Detroit Area we had "Cartoon Carnival" in the mornings around 6:30 AM. &:00 to 9:00 was for news shows (We'd be off to School by then) followed by the Game Shows, the 12:00 news and then the Soap Operas. When we got home from school there would be more kids shoes including Bozo the Clown (My Cub Scout Troop was invited to be on that show's "Peanut Gallery" in 1969, fun times indeed). Saturday Mornings, I LIVED for them. From 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM I could OD in my favorite animated series. Today I have almost 80 of those series on DVD, and I'll spend the first two hours of each Saturday recreating a little bit of my childhood. :D
