Interestingly, this song, "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)", was indirectly responsible for the existence of Black Sabbath. Back when the song was a huge hit, Ozzy Osbourne heard it on the radio in his native Birmingham, England, and hated it: "What was this garbage, some guy singing about flowers in his hair?" He said that Birmingham was an industrialized pit, light years away from the happy-hippie place of San Francisco. Crime, violence, pollution, and poverty reigned in his native Ashton neighborhood. Ozzy wanted a tougher sound than this fluffy little ditty, and, as fate would have it, met up with Tony Iommi, his old street rival who had a very loud guitar........
And the rest is history.
So, thank you, Scott McKenzie, for giving us, the gift of Black Sabbath. :D
