Wonder Years - I'LL TRY NOT TO SING OUT OF KEY.

That song is actually called "With a Little Help From My Friends". It was covered by the Scots band Wet, Wet, Wet about 10 years ago.

Oh, this topic again. All right, here goes...

Top 5(they're an odd bunch, not two alike):
"Take On Me" A-ha
"The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" The Walker Brothers
"Right Here, Right Now" Fatboy Slim
"Under the Milky Way" The Church
"Motorcycle Emptiness" Manic Street Preachers

My favorite new song would have to be Coldplay's "Trouble" or Linkin Park's "In the End". Hell, I'll admit I like P.O.D.'s "Youth of a Nation".

1 - Have you heard A1's (cheesy UK boyband) cover of 'Take on Me'? It's actually not bad - not a patch on the original though. I usually hate it when pop bands cover classics. Has anyone else had the misfortune to hear Atomic Kitten murder 'Eternal Flame'?

2 - I hate the Manics with a passion now but I still have to admit that 'Motorcycle Emptiness is an amazing song.

I can't really put my favorite songs into any kind of order as it usually depends what mood I'm in. If I could have written any song in history it would've been 'Bat Outta Hell' by Meatloaf. I also love 'Stand By Me' by Ben E. King and 'Paradise City' by GnR.

The only cover I've heard of "Take On Me" is by the punk band MXPX, which is quite good. But I haven't heard A1's version, nor have I heard Atomic Kitten's "Eternal Flame" cover.
No offense to any Bangles fans, but that song was crap from square one. Compared to other Bangle stuff, that song is horrible.

"With a passion". Why the hate? Is it because of "This is my truth. Tell me yours"? It's very not the Manics. I mean, I enjoy it. I would of had to...considering the fact the first song I ever heard by them was " If You Tolerate This...", hence, I bought the album. And every other album of their's.
But indeed, "Motorcycle Emptiness" is an amazing song.

I've heard that. It is good. I've also heard punk covers of Everything I Do I Do It For You and I Want You to Want Me, and a few other 80s songs, though I don't know which bands covered them. In general though, I've noticed alot of punk covers of 80s songs are pretty good.

As for favorite songs, I never bother to respond to these posts usually because my list is always changing and always too long anyway. And I seriously don't think I could even limit it to a top 5 or 10.

I know it's not the fault of the band but whenever I hear any tracks from their first 4 albums it just reminds me of my early-mid teens which were a terrible time for me.
And - this is the bands fault - they suck now!!! I mean, after 'The Holy Bible' there really was no other way but down but they are so middle-of-the-road now that my bloody mother listens to them!! I dunno if you've ever had this problem, but when your parents start liking the one band that ever really meant something to you it really kills!!!
And 'Know Your Enemy' is so crap that it can't even be put into words!
To my mind, the Manics are probably one of the biggest sell-outs in UK music history. They used to be so angry and passionate about what they did and that was what made them appeal to me at first. Now they're just a bunch of sad, fat old men and have become everything they said they wouldn't.
They're just in it for the money now and that's really sad.

I can understand the "soundtrack of our lives" bit, and hearing some of their songs might trigger some bad memories. Some songs do that to me too.
I don't know about calling them middle-of-the-road, but yes, they did mellow out after "The Holy Bible". And yes, they are fat now. And yes, "Know Your Enemy" is really an odd one.
But, c'mon, "Everything Must Go" is a glorious album. I can listen to every song without skipping a track...unlike "Generation Terrorists", and "The Holy Bible". Both albums which I love.
And so what if your mother starts liking a band you like. Believe me, my mom has started liking bands I like, and yes, it's a little sad, but that shows you that your band is appealing to the masses.
It doesn't mean you can't listen and enjoy their old albums that made you a fan in the first place. I just think the Manics became masters of reinventing themselves. Especially after Richey dissapeared. He was the key to all their anger and discontent, and that's what made their first three albums really quite different than next three.
The accolades they received from "Everything..." and on are well deserved, in my honest most humble opinion. It's just, I think they are a wonderful band, who for ten years have released good albums one after another. And some of those are clearly classics.
But I understand where you're coming from. The most sad thing about music is when bands sell-out, but I guess it's expected from time to time...
