I was reading this story about a WWII pilot whose plane was shot up so badly by a German fighter, that it caught fire. Fearing he would suffer by burning to death, he decided to jump from the his plane instead thinking that would be a less painful death for him. In his free fall, he fell into a tree which broke his fall then fractured his arm and left him with a scratch. But he ended up living a long healthy life. Isn't fate full of surprises?

That story really is amazing. His children and grandchildren must have enjoyed hearing him tell this story. I'm sure it crossed their minds how they wouldn't be here if fate hadn't intervened.
