View Full Version : Is there any way to see old cable schedules on the web for....
TVFactFan 08-16-2012, 05:33 PM TBS, TV LAND and N@N?
I would be curious to see what I missed over the years and also reflect back on what I remember and actually watched. Thanks
Yeah. Google Newspaper Archive has old newspapers from over the years. I imagine you can get all of those networks' schedules from different papers for different seasons; you just have to do some scouring (it gets kind of tedious).
It might be a fun project to compile those old schedules in threads here. I know I'm not the only nerd on these boards that enjoys that sort of thing.

Regulus 08-18-2012, 10:18 PM From time to time I'll look at Old Newspapers TV Listings to see what was on TV at a certain date to see what was on at the time, then see if I have DVDs of what was shown and recreate that day with my dvd player. For Example this past November 17 I recreated that day in 1968, watching the shows that played opposite the NBC Movie Heidi. :angryfire
This November 22 I'm doing this with a "twist" as I will watch shows that would have played on that day, if a certain event hadn't occured in Dallas.

Thanks for reminding me. I'm putting this off until next year, to coincide with the anniversary. Hmmm, what day in history will I do this year instead?
mets82 08-19-2012, 11:01 AM Brad, thats a very good list!! Thanks for posting it!! Man, did USA Network have a lot of game shows or what? They showed more game shows than GSN.
LUNCH 08-19-2012, 11:57 AM I used to watch channels like TBS and WGN etc. quite often in the mid 1980s- the early 1990s,they were really good stations. These schedules show how good a number of cable channels used to be,and how far they have fallen.Older and obscure programs, movies etc. are really what originally put cable on the map.---Original programming, getting rid of classic shows etc. and of course relentless advertising is what ruined cable.
TVFactFan 08-19-2012, 01:57 PM So I wonder what was the reason for the sudden shift to original programming and reality shows which happened sometime around 2004
LUNCH 08-19-2012, 02:20 PM So I wonder what was the reason for the sudden shift to original programming and reality shows which happened sometime around 2004
Probably for advertising reasons. You know, demographics and all that nonsense.
TVFactFan 08-19-2012, 02:31 PM I think they got into original programming/reality junk for advertising reasons. You know, demographics and all that nonsense.
Wonder what was the first cable channel to start the new programming trend that lead to so many cable networks doing the same
Wonder what was the first cable channel to start the new programming trend that lead to so many cable networks doing the same
Are you kidding, Sol? Cable has had original programming since at least the early '80s; probably earlier than that.

Ryan Chamberlain 09-24-2012, 04:55 AM Cable was so much better in the 90s. I wouldn't know about the 80s. Cause, I didn't come along till 87. And, I really don't remember anything pre-90.
All the channels either had a variety of programs. Or, they specialized in something. I remember when The Weather Channel was actually about nothing but weather forecasts, and A&E was Arts and Entertainment.
