'Family Trade' is first of net's 'real-life games' series

As it continues to expand outside of its tried-and-true gameshow territory, GSN has picked up reality series "Family Trade" for eight half-hour episodes.

The original unscripted skein follows the barter system used at family-owned car dealership G-Stone Motors in Vermont. G-Stone employs a loose "We'll take anything in trade" policy, accepting pigs, a hot air balloon, coffins and shoe collections as a swap for a new car or truck.

"With 'Family Trade,' GSN launches a new category of original series we call real-life games -- shows that take place in real settings and feature real-life risk and reward," said Amy Introcaso-Davis, GSN's exec veep of programming. "We're taking the cameras out of the studio to celebrate how people become winners in everyday situations."

"Family Trade" is produced by Lionsgate and Rogue State Prods., with Eli Frankel serving as exec producer. Net expects to bow the reality skein in 2013.

Every time you think TV can't come up with a show idea lower than this, they always do. How much more lying do you think these car dealers will do now that they're on TV? :eek: :crazy:

There's an age old saying that those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

GSN doesn't seem to be aware that Reality TV does not work for the channel at all. It didn't work in 2004, and it certainly hasn't been working for them now.

This is gonna be real stupid, a car dealership reality show, this is gonna be dreadful.

That is so stupid. I am so sick and tired of reality shows. Why in the world does there have to be so many stupid reality shows about everything you can imagine. Really!? I miss the days when there were nice sitcoms on TV. The stuff they're putting on tv is getting worse and worse. This is GSN, so it should be just for game shows. I'm also sick and tired of these networks adding reality shows and stuff that has nothing to do with what the network is for like GSN is game shows, not reality shows.

Yes reality shows are bad, but scripted shows like the new knight rider continuation from 4 years are just as bad, if not worse than reality shows.
