There could have been a spinoff. Gloria Stivik from All in the Family got a spinoff after her divorce from Mike, so Lionel or Jenny could have gotten their own show, too. It could have been before or after the divorce. We could have seen them co-parenting Jessica, etc.

No it would have been better if Lionel got his own show since he was with the cast when the Jeffersons started. TV Guide actually predicted he would get his own show

It's true. Lionel became almost irrelevant when he was on The Jeffersons, but when he was on All in the Family, his character was very important and he added a lot of comedy.

You're also right about Mother Jefferson. She became a big part of the Jeffersons while Lionel was nothing more than an after thought. It should have been the other way around.

While on AITF he had Archie ignorance to play off of. Archie was the main person who brought up race while around Lionel. Sherman bigger than life presence took over The Jefferson's and it pushed Mike to the back. I said his character wasn't really needed. He didn't bring anything to the show. They could have had it to where he was away at college LOL. But the writers should have given him more of a story line.
