View Full Version : Why didn't Lionel and Jenny have their own spinoff since....
TVFactFan 08-05-2012, 08:12 PM their roles on the show were so small? I mean why not just create a show called Lionel and Jenny and air it after the Jeffersons? What was the point in adding Mike Evans back to the show if he was not going to be used?
The show was already had a crowded set so giving Lionel and Jenny a spinoff would have made sense right???
*ROGER* 08-05-2012, 08:24 PM There could have been a spinoff. Gloria Stivik from All in the Family got a spinoff after her divorce from Mike, so Lionel or Jenny could have gotten their own show, too. It could have been before or after the divorce. We could have seen them co-parenting Jessica, etc.

You said you were a fan of the 1st Lionel?

No it would have been better if Lionel got his own show since he was with the cast when the Jeffersons started. TV Guide actually predicted he would get his own show

I am but I don't think he could have carried a show. He was a good actor, he wasn't great.

It's a damm shame he stood out and became popular on a all white show but was phased out when he went to a show with more black characters

It's true. Lionel became almost irrelevant when he was on The Jeffersons, but when he was on All in the Family, his character was very important and he added a lot of comedy.
You're also right about Mother Jefferson. She became a big part of the Jeffersons while Lionel was nothing more than an after thought. It should have been the other way around.

While on AITF he had Archie ignorance to play off of. Archie was the main person who brought up race while around Lionel. Sherman bigger than life presence took over The Jefferson's and it pushed Mike to the back. To be honest when George and Louise moved uptown there wasn't a need for Lionel, which is sad because he was the whole reason why The Jefferson's started.

But he was still in college, wasn't like he was 26:lol:

I said his character wasn't really needed. He didn't bring anything to the show. They could have had it to where he was away at college LOL. But the writers should have given him more of a story line.

And I just realized when he was on AITF he was alone most of the time when he was in the bunkers house

He was alone?

When he was in the Bunkers house he was always there without his family except for the one time he had a argument with George
ThomasE 08-07-2012, 04:17 AM A spinoff could have possibly worked. They would have had to have worked hard to make it interesting, though.
