NFL Browns Sold to Haslam for More Than $1 Billion, ESPN Reports
By Aaron Kuriloff on August 02, 2012

Randy Lerner sold the Cleveland Browns to James Haslam III for more than $1 billion, ESPN reported, citing an unidentified National Football League executive.

Haslam is a part owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and president of Pilot Travel Centers LLC, the nation’s largest operator of travel centers and truck stops. He is also the brother of Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam.

Browns spokesman Neal Gulkis declined comment.

Lerner, 50, who also owns the Aston Villa soccer club, said last week he was talking to Haslam about “making an investment” in the team and he would share further details at a later date.

Randy Lerner basically did NOTHING for The Browns when he pwned them...he was better-off moving the Team to L.A., but Haslam could give The Browns new breath...but one can only hope....

Wow, it got sold to a Steeler. Well he's been around a winner so maybe he can rebuild the Browns. Good luck Paul, Monika and all Browns fans. :)

As part of his agreement to buy the Browns, Jimmy Haslam III retired his Steelers watch Thursday in favor of a Browns watch -- the first of what might be many changes. Former Philadelphia Eagles president Joe Banner will assume the same role with the Cleveland Browns, possibly spelling the end of Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert in Cleveland, two league sources told CBSsports.com on Thursday. NFL Network learned earlier that Banner would be part of [Haslam's] executive management team, but Banner's exact role has yet to be announced. One source told CBSsports.com that Haslam will "blow (the) whole place up" in reference to the Browns' front office. Browns president Holmgren and general manager Heckert probably will be fired.
