When you think about it, Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons have alot in common aside from the fact that when we think of one, we think of the other.
Both shows are "loosely" based on the writings of one of the children, John-Boy Walton (Earl Hamner) and Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Both shows feature families living in past periods of history.

I hated watching both shows as a kid - not enough car crashes or fist fights in either one.

Both Caroline Ingalls and Olivia Walton substituted as school teachers.
Both Charles Ingalls and John Walton worked in the lumber business.

Both The Ingalls and The Waltons took in 2 young children toward the end of the series--LH James and Cassandra Cooper and TW - Serena and Jeffery Burton, who arrived with their grandmother, Rose.
Both busybodies Hariett Oleson and Corabeth Godsey adopted daughters, and both Nels and Ike didn't have much say about it!

Both the Waltons and The Ingalls were close to their minister, TW Rev. Fordwick (John Ritter), and The Ingalls, Rev. Alden, (Dabbs Greer)
Both John Ritter and Dabbs Greer played ministers on other shows-- John Ritter, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Dabbs Greer, The Brady Bunch.
