I use to never buy used TV DVDs but recently I started buying some older releases used from Amazon. So far I haven't had any problems. Most of the time they look brand new just without the plastic wrap, and no scratches on the disc. Some sets I had been waiting for the price to drop for a couple of years (literally) so I got sick of waiting and have been getting pretty good deals for the same product. Just wondering if anyone else does this. The nice thing with Amazon is that it's easy to return, if it doesn't work I can just send it back.

Unless I can get a really good deal on a new set, used is the only way I'll buy them. I mainly get them from eBay and have never had a problem. Thrift stores and pawn shops are another good place and you can always inspect the discs there before purchasing.

I prefer the new DVD's, but if I find a used sitcom DVD that I cant find new, I will buy it.

I like used because they're much cheaper and after you remove the shrinkwrap from a new set and watch the discs one time, it becomes a used product. If I were a collector and wanted my sets in pristine condition then I would buy new and leave them sealed but even a factory sealed set is no guarantee that the discs inside will be mint.

Every weekend I go "Garage Sailing" Looking for Used Videos (VHS as well as DVD) that someone is selling. I always inspect the Merchandise to make sure there in decent condition before I buy them. I have picked up hundreds of Titles for pennies on the dollar this way! :D

I have been stocking up like mad. Mostly used sets off Amazon. Considering how Netflix mails dvd's around I figure the discs should be playable, I'm willing to risk it if I can get a full season for $8-$9 or less. My best deal was a season of Curb You Enthusiasm on Amazon for 6 cents or $3.04 with shipping. I got every season of Friends for $8 per season from a collector all at once. I tend to buy older shows and am willing to wait until I can pick one up for under $10. We have a McKays about an hour from here and I find their prices high on DVD's.

Newbury Comics ( New England based only I think) buys and sells used DVDS, CDs and records. They check the discs before buying any back so I will buy used from them often, as its much cheaper. For the price of one season new I can get often 2 or 3 seasons.

They sell on Amazon Marketplace too. I have got a couple of things through them. Great prices!

I used to occasionally buy old VHSs/DVDs years ago from 2nd hand stores, but now I pretty much just burn from TV channels. When I do buy, I usually buy new, but only when there's a REALLY good sale, like Black Friday.

I'm not against buying used but I usually buy my box sets new unless the price is ridiculous like 30 dollars for a 12 episode season or something like that. If I were to walk into a store that sells used things if they had a used box set to a show I liked and it was in good quality I'd buy it, but normally I stick with amazon.

Some shows that I was not a fan of 10 years ago I didn't mind buying them used.

But a show I been a fan of for years I usually bought brand new

Our local library has a sale once in awhile -- I've bought several VHS tapes and DVD's with no problems -- and a fraction of the new price.
