Has anyone read Torey Hayden's books. She wrote about the kids that she worked with who had emotional and physical disabilities.
"Somebody Else's Kids": Torey talks about working with Lori who was abuses severely by her biographic parents so badly that she received a fractured skull which caused brain damage that made her unable to read letter and number symbols until she was an older child at a special school. Tomaso: who saw his step-mother shoot his father and brother.
"The Murphy Boy": a boy who witness his step-father beating his sister to death.
"Just Another Kid": Geraldine and Shermona who lost their parents and younger brother in a fire in Ireland and had to move to United States to live with relatives.
Amazingly most of the kids are doing well now.
