WENTWORTH — A man faces new criminal charges after refusing to leave the Rockingham County jail.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said Rodney Dwayne Valentine, 37, had been held in jail since May 22.

Valentine, who has no permanent address, was released from jail at 8 a.m. Saturday. The sheriff’s office said Valentine asked deputies to drive him to a local motel. They refused.

When Valentine failed to leave the jail by about 1 p.m. Saturday, he was charged with second-degree trespassing and returned to jail.

He is being held on a $500 bond. He is due in court Aug. 9.

Cabs must be pretty bad there, guess they didn't think to call them. But then he probably had no money anyway.
