Hi all, i don't see much here on lucy's short lived final series "Life with Lucy" i got to attend a taping back in 86' (the wedding episode with Audrey Meadows) and had a wonderful time! Watching Lucy and Gale Gordon working together in person was an honor!! I ordered tickets back then in 86' for a couple of tapings but sadly only made it to one! The other tickets were not used and i just recently found them in a storage box. I've listed one on ebay (as of 7/18/12) just a heads up for any collectors or fans out there! Thanks

One key reason that I've read for why that show failed unlike Lucille Ball's two other post-ILL shows is because she wanted to be the star still, but without compromise. In effect, Lucy's ego was so inflated (mostly due do to her well earned status at that point as the "Queen of Comedy") that she was able put people behind the scenes (or "yes men" to be blunt) in their place with her demands knowing that they couldn’t say no to her. Maybe if Lucy had agreed to play a more mellow role suitable for her age (especially in contrast to the more witty, sarcastic, verbal based humor of NBC's The Golden Girls, which also starred more "mature women") while letting the younger actors be the real stars, the series could have worked. Basically, Lucy seemed to think that she could coast on her past glory even though viewers weren't comfortable seeming a now 70 something Lucille Ball try to do physical comedy.

OH Nuts!

Sometimes you have to go out with a bang, riding at the top of the wave. Like Mary Tyler Moore did with her show. And with at least three great shows under her belt, Lucy should have left well enough alone.

Even though Lucy was a savvy TV businesswoman, I think you are right about this show; she lost her pulse of the 80s TV public.

Why would Lucy want to take a backseat and be the grandmother on Friends or Seinfeld? She probably shouldn't have tried a sitcom at all at that stage of her life but playing a bit part just to be on a show was beneath her.

She starred in several failed series after The Mary Tyler Moore Show ended.

She died before either one of those shows came along.

Obviously, but the concept is the same.

Anybody know which ep taped on 11/13? I know that only a very few were produced after the last one aired.
