View Full Version : In 2012, do most people still buy NEW DVD Releases from the store or online?
TVFactFan 07-18-2012, 12:18 PM Today was the first time I purchased a New DVD release in about 6 years and back during that time I always went to Best Buy or Walmart or FYE. But now it seems like those stores don't carry TV shows on DVD anymore and you have to get them online. Atleast that seems to be the case in this TOILET BOWL they call Philadelphia.
So how many of you still buy DVD's out of the store? I was forced to buy online today

Most of the time I order them online. Sometimes I but form Best Buy or Target.
cajunhillbilly 07-18-2012, 12:43 PM The choices at Walmart varies from store to store. I prefer buying online anyway.
loaferman 07-18-2012, 02:18 PM I buy almost entirely online. I buy used whenever I can find them at a good bargain. I recently scored a season of Curb Your Enthusiasm for 6 cents plus postage. I had only seen clips and wanted to check out full episodes and at that price it was a no-brainer. I think somebody must have meant to put 6 dollars, LOL.
zypherix 07-18-2012, 02:21 PM 99% online. The odd chance I have of finding something worth while in a store here is.. minimal, always cheaper to buy it online.
old grouch 07-18-2012, 02:28 PM Usually online, it just depends on who has the best bargains.
TVFactFan 07-18-2012, 02:48 PM I order Different Strokes online today and selected one day shipping
Does anyone know if that will come through UPS?
Regulus 07-18-2012, 03:53 PM Mostly Online. The lions share of what I purchase at B&M Stores such as Wally's occurs on "The National Day of Insanity" in November.  :rotflmao: :brent
gilligan fanatic 07-20-2012, 09:05 PM I am real slow to buy new releases. If I do get it when it first comes out it is usually online but it seems like lately I have been buying three and four year old DVDs cheap in the store.

That's what I was doing with All in the Family and then the entire set is released. I purchased seasons 1 to 5.
Brieannas21 07-20-2012, 09:59 PM I have learned my lesson, I will not buy individual seasons of a tv show again. I will wait until the whole series is released.

The store FYE was selling the individual seasons of AITF for like $12.99 so I was able to get two season for under $30.00. So I jumped on that deal which explains why I got the individual seasons.
Ihavealife2uknow 07-21-2012, 05:57 PM 90% of the time I purchase online because most of the shows I want aren't available in the stores I shop at. The only exception so far is found One Tree Hill at Wal-Mart and bought 2 seasons there.

Online is the way to go now. Different Strokes was released this past Tuesday and some stores didn't even have it.

I am surprised you didn't already own them.

I wasn't in a rush to buy it because of the seriousness in certain episodes.

It's crazy glued to the Antenna TV schedule:lol:
hawkeye123 07-21-2012, 10:22 PM On the rare occasion I have extra money. I buy them at Wal-Mart Target or Fred Meyers. But I usually just borrow them from the library.

Does the library have a "limited" selection of shows on DVD?

It seems to have most of the ones I watched. Not all of them no. But you can request them and, they will get them. It's a long wait for new shows.
OH Nuts! 07-21-2012, 11:34 PM I know I'm old- fashioned but I buy most everything (like 98%) from a store. Mostly J & R Music World, but on occasion Target or Best Buy.

That's what I prefer to do but it seems like new DVD releases in stores today is a thing of the past
Daniel52252 07-22-2012, 03:16 PM On-line: I have found Walmart the best -best (least coast) price, and free shipping to store near you -- many times in only 2 days. On-line they have a good selection.
I do buy from others as-well.
LeeBlue 07-22-2012, 05:04 PM Once in awhile I will borrow from the library but their selection of TV shows is really small.
. Half of the time I can find DVDs at WalMart or Target.
.Otherwise I order thru a local book store.

That's not really true. I could list well over 100 tv shows they have in stock. And they will order anything you ask them for.
704Hauser 08-04-2012, 07:59 AM Considering the relatively poor selection of US TV DVDs in Australia, most of my TV on DVD purchases are online, through Amazon. I did, however, buy the entire series of Cheers the other day for less than AU$0.50 an episode at a store :D

Seems like buying a DVD in a store is only for unplanned purchases. Like if you was out with family or friends and someone happens to go in a certain store that has a TV on DVD section and you can see what they have
steevo 08-19-2012, 02:27 PM I usually buy online because of the cheaper prices, but it depends on the show and what kind of a deal I can get for it (for, example, FYE will occasionally run a used DVD deal of buy one get two free and can get a good deal there).

I took advantage of that FYE deal and realized that they are only good for older releases. They don't carry new releases
