CBS is indeed pursuing more How I Met Your Mother, Variety reports. Mother is heading into its eighth season, and while the story is getting a little creaky in its old age, ratings are robust — so CBS and the show's studio, 20th Century Fox, are in "preliminary talks" to extend the series for a ninth season. Back in May, HIMYM showrunner Craig Thomas told Vulture he wasn't sure whether the show would be back for one or two more seasons, but that he'd hope to know sometime in July. Believe it or not, it is July! Tick tick tick.

I don't care about its ratings rise last season, it may not last during season 8. Why should there even be a season 10 of this show? Why do fans of the show have to wait even longer to find out the identity of the mother of Ted Mosby’s future children? And how old are Ted Mosby's children supposed to be in 2030?

Edit: If there is a season 9 of HIMYM, let the story end there. Any more seasons after that would be overkill because they would put a crunch on the children's ages in 2030 if the Mother revelation storyline keeps getting held back until then.

Talk about dragging a long story on and on and on and on......They should have called the series My Days of Playing the Field.

My guess is they have not wrapped it up yet because they all want to keep WORKING:lol:

Why end a hit and not have a job?

Why end a hit and not have a job?

Contract expiring soon.
Desire to move on to other projects.
Network's primetime schedule is congested enough as it is and the network wants to push new shows.

For nine years, we’ve watched How I Met Your Mother, listening along as Ted Mosby tells his children the story of his life living in New York in his twenties and thirties, and how the events led him to finally discovering his one true love. Throughout the entire series, viewers got a chance to not only learn the story, but to also watch as Ted grew throughout the series. In addition, we got to watch as his circle of friends changed and evolved.

Unfortunately, the ninth and final season of HIMYM has proven to be without a doubt the most disappointing. Although other seasons have had their low points, those poor episodes were outnumbered by high quality ones that advanced the stories of all the characters.

Season nine was a total inversion of that formula, however. Poor episodes outnumbered the quality versions, and the show seemed to delight in undoing all the character development the characters had undergone in the previous eight seasons. Despite all that, there was still hope that the finale would provide a satisfying conclusion.

But sadly, it was not meant to be. The hour-long finale, “Last Forever,” simply proved to be every bit as disappointingly infuriating as the rest of the season. Here are the biggest mistakes the show made in its final season.[/quote]

I thought the concept was very clever and well done. Great Job to the cast and crew.
