View Full Version : More songs that remind us of Freddie
Luckymama58 01-29-2002, 09:27 PM As I am staring at my candle, remembering Freddie, I decided to play all the songs that I have downloaded from KaZaA over the past several months that remind me of Freddie. There are a lot, but the words of one really struck me tonight. It is a song Macca told us about back in September.
Artist: Nickel Creek
Title: When You Come Back Down
You gotta leave me now
You gotta go along
You gotta chase a dream
One that痴 all your own
Before it slips away
When you池e flying high
Take my heart along
I値l be the harmony
To every lonely song
But you値l learn to play
When you池e soaring through the air
I値l be your solid ground
Take every chance you dare
I値l still be there
When you come back down
When you come back down
I keep looking up
Waiting your return
My greatest fear will be
That you will crash and burn
And I won稚 feel your fire
I値l be the other hand
That always holds a line
Connecting in between
Your sweet heart and mine
I知 strung out on that wire
And I値l be on the other end
To hear you when you call
Angel you were born to fly
And if you get too high
I値l catch you when you fall
Catch you when you fall
The memories, the sunshine
Every new day brings
I know the sky is calling
Angel let me help you with your wings
When you池e soaring through the air
I値l be your solid ground
Take every chance you dare
I値l still be there
When you come back down
Take every chance you dare
I値l still be there
When you come back down
When you come back down
MariposaLKB 01-29-2002, 09:39 PM Thanx mucho, Luckymama, for a new opportunity to share one of the most powerful ways that Freddie touches us all--through songs that we sometimes didn't even know had meaning for us until we associated them with him! This one is by another great country band, Diamond Rio:
Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me
It could be for anything
I didn't ask for money
Or a mansion in Malibu
I simply wished for one more day with you!
One more day, one more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again, I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you
One more day...
First thing I'd do is pray for time to crawl
I'd unplug the telephone and keep the TV off
I'd hold you every second
Say a million "I Love You's"
That's what I'd do with one more day with you
One more day, one more time
One more sunset maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you
Prince 01-29-2002, 11:57 PM freddie prinze ffffgghhjj gghhhhhh gghhhhhh
Prince 01-30-2002, 12:31 AM The post that appears above this one was an accident. I was
playing around trying to get an aviator to go with my post, but
as you can see it didn't work. The picture is great anyway. So
feast your eyes on that handsome hunk and forget about the
rest. That's what happens when your not to computer smart.
At least I figured out how to insert a picture...totally by mistake
mind you. Anyway, doesn't he look great in pink??
Cheryl Harrell 01-30-2002, 03:06 AM And here I thought you were trying to send us a subliminal message LOL! ;) Cute picture! What a hunk! :)
tylersmistress2002 01-30-2002, 02:07 PM Freddie looks good in ANY color but I have always liked pink on men, tho most men I know are not secure enuf to wear it. Too bad. That is an adorable picture of him.... but I think I like him better with the mustache...... I guess I am just used to it or may be I am partial to men with them... by b/r has one and some of my friends seem to think he loooks a little like Freddie, tho I dont see much resemblence. One of these days I gotta scan a picture and get your opinions.
Prince 01-30-2002, 04:02 PM Well one thing we know for sure...Freddie looks good with or
without his famous mustache. He couldn't look bad if he tried.
No mysterious message was intended Cheryl...LOL...I'm just
not too with it...but with it enough to appreciate our Prinze.
I knew there was a reason why I always liked the color pink, now
I have finally figured out why.
Pitooey 01-30-2002, 09:46 PM I've always loved the color pink too. Wooooooo! He looks so handsome...... He could've worn a barrel and still be LOOKING GOOD!!!!
Cheryl Harrell 01-31-2002, 03:28 AM Yeah, I was just joking ROTFL. Actually he looks HOT in that pink shirt! :) He wears pink very well. I need to buy my hubby Mike a pnk long sleeve dress shirt lie that. Loooking Gooodl...
Mariposa,I was just gonna post that saame song by Diamond rio.I love that song and everytime I hear it i think of Freddie!
Pitooey 01-31-2002, 01:55 PM I bought my hubby a pink shirt and he wore it one time only. I asked him where is the shirt? His reply???Blah, blah, blah, blah........ So I gave up.
Cheryl Harrell 02-01-2002, 05:34 AM My hubby's made comments about not wanting to wear pink. He thinks it's a girls color. But I bought him a pink long sleeve dress shirt ( or was it short sleeve) & he wore it jsut fine. Probably cuz it was a real light pink. It's nice to see a guy (Freddie) who has the confidence to wear pink... :)
Luckymama58 02-04-2002, 11:07 PM I was listening to the radio and I discovered another song by the group The Calling. I can soooo picture Freddie singing this song about how he might be feeling now. It is a bitter sweet song.

Title: Wherever You Will Go
So lately, been wondering
Who will be there to take my place
When I'm gone you'll need love
To light the shadows on your face
If a great wave shall fall and fall upon us all
Then between the sand and stone
Could you make it on your own
If I could, then I would
I'll go wherever you will go
Way up high or down low
I'll go wherever you will go
And maybe, I'll find out
A way to make it back someday
To watch you, to guide you
Through the darkest of your days
If a great wave shall fall and fall upon us all
Then I hope there's someone out there
Who can bring me back to you
If I could, then I would
I'll go wherever you will go
Way up high or down low
I'll go wherever you will go
Run away with my heart
Run away with my hope
Run away with my love
I know now, just quite how
My life and love might still go on
In your heart, in your mind
I'll stay with you for all of time
If I could, then I would
I'll go wherever you will go
Way up high or down low
I'll go wherever you will go
If I could turn back time
I'll go wherever you will go
If I could make you mine
I'll go wherever you will go
I'll go wherever you will go
luvinjuan1980 02-12-2002, 01:43 PM I'll be there before the next teardrop falls
Light my fire
remind me of Freddie Prinze
The song,I'm movin on by country group Rascal flatts reminds me of Freddie. How I wish he had found another way of leaving his ghosts behind.
It's a very pretty ballad
Cheryl Harrell 02-12-2002, 06:34 PM EVIL WAYS by Santana. I bet he probably liked that song. :)
I heard Crystal Gayle's somebody loves you. It's about a girl trying to get in touch with her lost love or ex boyfriend so she can let him know that someone loves him.
The song refers to the person-being loved-as still living but It does remind me of Freddie just the same.
luvinjuan1980 02-21-2002, 04:17 PM "Could it be i'm falling in Love" by The Spinners reminds me of him.
Cheryl Harrell 02-21-2002, 06:15 PM Yeah I think he liked the SPINNERS so he would've liked that song.
luvinjuan1980 02-28-2002, 11:30 AM a message in "Post your sweet dreams" a song popped into my head as I typed out the last sentence. "He was the Best."
The Carly Simon song "Nobody does it better." aka "The spy who loved me." That made me think of Freddie.
MariposaLKB 03-16-2002, 11:21 AM I started studying voice last summer at the same studio where my 9-year-old daughter has been taking piano lessons for almost three years. I am required to study some songs which are considered "standard repetoire", and have come across two of these which remind me very much of Freddie. One was the piece I sang for my first recital a couple of weeks ago. It was originally written in German (but I sang it in English because my teacher hates German LOL) and is called "Pleading":
Look on me, O eyes so tender
Let me feel thy wondrous might
Earnest, mild, with dreamy rapture
Fair as day and dark as night
Take now with thy dark enchantment
All the cares from me away
That alone thou shalt forever
O'er my life and love hold sway.
The second one is much longer so I will post only the URL for a site on which you can read and listen to it. I have not learned it yet but I have told my teacher I can speak Spanish and would like to make this the first foreign-language piece I learn:
http://www.love-that-luis.com/lyrics-romncs/jurame.htm
luvinjuan1980 03-16-2002, 09:28 PM "Pick up the Pieces." The Average White Band
reminds me of Freddie. I think because that song came out the same year that Chico and The Man debuted.
Cheryl Harrell 03-17-2002, 03:26 AM I remember that one & it's a good one. I bet Freddie liked it! :)
Good luck with the singing lessons Mariposa! :) I checked out the site you listed & it was interesting. I think Luis Miguel is a popular Mexican singer. I dunno what he sings tho. I bet Freddie would've liked him. I liked Freddies singing on the first CATM episode. I wish he could've done a singing album...
Here is Freddies singing on the Tony Orlando & Dawn album singing backup on TO BE WITH YOU. I couldn't fit the whole song on a wav file so Freddies parts are on several wav files & if you have WINDOWS MEDIA player I think that's what it takes to hear them.
Here is the main one with him in it:
http://www.boomspeed.com/cherylh/tobewithyoupart3.wav
Apologies for the bad sound quality but in order to put it on a WAV file I had to record it on a cassette tape & play it on a portable cassette deck in front of the puters microphone & tape it that way which is bad sound quality but I don't have a patch cable to hook up the tape deck to the puter...
MariposaLKB 03-17-2002, 08:47 AM Cheryl, I was fortunate enough to win a copy of that TOAD album on e-Bay, and the first time I listened to it--when Freddie's part came on at the end of the title song, "To Be With You"--I literally could not breathe!!! On CATM the little we get to hear him sing makes you think his voice was rather high, but on this song he uses the lower end of his range--Mmmmmm! Plus the words are in Spanish--"Estar contigo mi amor", which means the same as the title. OMG, what a shame he didn't make any records of his own! He would have been spectacular!
Prince 03-17-2002, 09:17 PM A song that is currently out that so reminds me of Freddie is
callled "Moving On" by a country group called Rascal Flatts. Everytime I hear it...I think of our Prince and how dear he is.:)
Carmen_Epstein 03-25-2002, 02:02 PM "Free Bird" by Lynrd Skynrd reminds me of Freddie because he's free from all the pain.
MariposaLKB 03-25-2002, 02:42 PM Carmen, my husband would be thoroughly appalled to have that song associated with Freddie ROTFLMAO!!! That is his most favorite song of all time, and his interest in Lynyrd Skynyrd is the only celebrity-related thing in his life that remotely approaches my devotion to Freddie. I know (though he would never admit it) that he is terribly jealous of my interest in Freddie, and I can't understand why he loves LS so much--they're OK, but as far as Southern rock goes there are other bands I like better. We even had a fight about it one time in which he was saying of Freddie, "The guy's dead, for Pete's sake!" and I said to him, "Well, you have your celebrities who died tragically in 1977!" (several of the members of LS died in a plane crash in October of that year) So I have never thought of that song in terms of Freddie--to me, he and LS have always been totally separate LOL! I will have to give the song another listen in light of your post.

Cheryl..... Thank you so much for that clip. I was hearing Tony but, then I heard a whisper at the end. Is that Freddie? I almost cried. :crying:
Cheryl Harrell 03-26-2002, 05:20 PM I had wondered if that was Freddie doing the sexy stuff on there as it sounded too sexy to be Tony Orlando. I asked on here which part was Freddies & someone said he did the sexy voice on there. :)
My hubby will some times kid me about why didn't I like Freddiie when I used to watch CATM in the 70's & now like him yrs aftyer he was dead thanks to the TVLAND re-runs. I point out to him that ELVIS who he is huge fan of & collects on is dead. THat shuts him up LOL!
MariposaLKB 03-29-2002, 12:15 PM Several times over the last week I have heard a song that I haven't thought of in a while--"The Dance" by Garth Brooks. As I have listened to the song again in light of my feelings for Freddie, I couldn't help but think it says some things that he might say to his family and to us, and that we might say to him if we could (especially the first verse--I can imagine all of us saying the last two lines of it to him, and "the dance under the stars" being not just the relationships he had while he was here, but the connection the living have to the departed):
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared
'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known
that you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known
how the king would fall
Hey who's to say, you know
I might have changed it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
but I'd have had to miss the dance
Luckymama58 06-30-2002, 09:50 AM I had to go back a ways to find this thread....
I just got a collection of Neil Diamond's greatest hits the other day and yesterday I was listening to it in the car. The song "I am, I said" was one of the first songs that got both my mom and I hooked on this singer/songwriter. (He's still my mom's favorite honey! :loveya: )
Anyway, when I was listening to it in the car...I was struck by the words and thought how they really could apply to the despair Freddie might have been feeling :crying: It made me sad, but I thought too, "how poignant". I want to share them with you and see what you think.
I Am I Said
L.A.'s fine, the sun shines most the time
And the feeling is 'lay back'
Palm trees grow, and rents are low
But you know I keep thinkin' about
Making my way back
Well I'm New York City born and raised
But nowadays, I'm lost between two shores
L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home
New York's home, but it ain't mine no more
"I am," I said
To no one there
An no one heard at all
Not even the chair
"I am," I cried
"I am," said I
And I am lost, and I can't even say why
Leavin' me lonely still
Did you ever read about a frog who dreamed of bein' a king
And then became one
Well except for the names and a few other changes
I you talk about me, the story's the same one
But I got an emptiness deep inside
And I've tried, but it won't let me go
And I'm not a man who likes to swear
But I never cared for the sound of being alone
"I am," I said
To no one there
An no one heard at all
Not even the chair
"I am," I cried
"I am," said I
And I am lost, and I can't even say why
Leavin' me lonely still
MariposaLKB 06-30-2002, 10:00 AM Lucky, when my husband and I saw Neil in concert last fall, the moment he began singing that song I immediately thought of Freddie, and by the time he got to the line, "LA's fine but it ain't home, New York's home but it ain't mine no more", I was in tears! I was also put in mind of Freddie by the song "Shiloh", which I posted on here right after we saw Neil.
hue_mee 06-30-2002, 11:35 AM As I read the posts on this thread. I was struggling to come up with a song at that time reminded me of Freddie. I was struck with the words Mariposa used on one she had sang on recital a while back. That and with all the adorable pictures that have been posted here recently. I have combined the words that Mariposa used to remind her of Freddie with a picture of him .
The song is called Pleading. Thank you Lori and thank you Freddie!! :)
hue_mee 06-30-2002, 11:37 AM Well here is the picture that I had hoped to have posted on the previous one.
MariposaLKB 06-30-2002, 01:06 PM I hadn't even thought about that song since I sang it in February (I haven't sung it since, and I have never even seen the tape of the recital--I don't WANT to see or hear myself LOL!). What a beautiful way to make the connection to Freddie that I did as soon as I saw the words! And how did you know that my favorite color is green hee hee? Thanx mucho!
Cheryl Harrell 07-01-2002, 03:36 AM That's a cute pic with the lyrics on it! :)
Another song that reminds me of Freddie is EVERYBODY IS A STAR by Sly And The Family Stone. It reminds me of Freddie now, ever since I saw the CAN YOU HEAR THE LAUGHTER movie cuz it had a version of that song done by someone else & not Sly & The Family Stone in it as well as an instrumental version of that song in it.
The words to it I've copied from a website after searching for them on the internet:
EVERYBODY IS A STAR
Sly & The Family Stone
Everybody is a star
Who can rain, chase the dust away
Everybody wants to shine
Ooh, come out on a cloudy day
'Til the sun that loves you proud
When the system tries to bring you down
Every hand to shine tonight
You don't need darkness to do
what you think is right
Ba pa-pa-pa ba
pa-pa ba ba ba
pa-pa ba pa-pa ba
pa-pa ba ba ba,
ba-pa ba-pa ba ba,
ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Everybody is a star
I can feel it
when you shine on me
I love you for who you are
Not the one you feel you need to be
Ever catch a falling star
Ain't no stopping
'til it's in the ground
Everybody is a star
One big circle going round and round
Ba pa-pa-pa ba
pa-pa ba ba ba
pa-pa ba pa-pa ba
pa-pa ba ba ba,
ba-pa ba-pa ba ba,
ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ba pa-pa-pa ba
pa-pa ba ba ba
pa-pa ba pa-pa ba
pa-pa ba ba ba,
ba-pa ba-pa ba ba,
ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ba pa-pa-pa ba
pa-pa ba ba ba
pa-pa ba pa-pa ba
pa-pa ba ba ba,
ba-pa ba-pa ba ba,
shine, shine, shine, shine
(repeat and fade)
Anyway, now when I hear the song it just makes me cry cuz it reminds me of Freddie. Yesterday (Sun) we went out to eat at Shoneys with some friends & they played that song over the PA system. It made me think of Freddie & want to cry but I couldn't cuz I was out. :( Now here I am writing about it & now finally getting to let it all out. (Reaches for hankie...) It just reminds me of the movie & it was so sad how it ended. :crying:
Another one that reminds me of Freddie is EVERYBODY PLAYS THE FOOL by the Main Ingredient. Since he liked them & the song was out when he was alive, I figure he must've liked it & the words seem to fit him too...
Everybody Plays the Fool
Main Ingredient
________
(spoken)
Ok, so your hearts broke. You sit around moping, crying, crying
you say you're even thinking about dying
Well, before you do anything rash, Dig this...
(sung)
Everybody plays the fool sometime;
There's no exception to the rule.
Listen, baby, it may be factual, may be cruel,
I ain't lying, everybody plays the fool.
Falling in love is such an easy thing to do,
And there's no guarantee that the one you love is gonna love you.
Oh, lovin' eyes they cannot see a certain person could never be;
Love runs deeper than any ocean,
And clouds your mind with emotion.
Everybody plays the fool, sometime,
They use your heart like a tool.
Listen, baby, they never tell you so in school
But everybody plays the fool.
And when the music starts to play,
And your ability to reason is swept away,
Oh, heaven on earth is all you see;
You're out of touch with reality;
Love runs deeper than any ocean,
And clouds your mind with emotion
Another one is Freddies Dead by Curtis Mayfield. I bet Freddie liked this one too.
I know the song is about a pusher & Freddie wasn't one but these 2 parts of the song reminds me of Freddie:
"It's hard to understand
There was love in this man
I'm sure all would agree
That his misery was his woman and things" (Reminds me of his marraige to Kathy)...
"Everybody's misused him
Ripped him off and abused him"
The words are copied here from a website:
FREDDIE'S DEAD
Hey, yeah, hey, hey
Love, love, love, love, love
Yeah, yeah !
Say Freddie's dead, huh !
That's what I said
Let the man said he'd send him home
But his hope was a rope but he should have known
It's hard to understand
There was love in this man
I'm sure all would agree
That his misery was his woman and things
Freddie's dead, huh !
That's what I said
Everybody's misused him
Ripped him off and abused him
Another junkie plan
Pushing dope for the man
A terrible blow but that's how it goes
Freddie's on the corner now
And if you want to be a junkie, wow !
Just remember
Freddie's dead
We're all built up with progress
But sometimes I must confess
You can deal with rockets and dreams
But reality, what does it mean ?
Ain't no damned thing said
'Cause Freddie's dead
Hey, yeah, hey, hey
Love, love, love, love, love
Yeah, yeah !
Hey, yeah, hey, hey
Love, love, love, love, love
Yeah, yeah !
All I want is some peace of mind
With a little love I'm tryin' to find
This could be such a beautiful world
With a wonderful girl
I need a woman, child
Why can't we brothers protect one another ?
No one's serious and it make furious
Freddie's dead
Don't be misled, just think of Fred
Don't be misled, just think of Fred
Everybody's misused him
Ripped him off and abused him
Another junkie plan
Pushing dope for the man
Freddie's on the corner now
And if you want to be a junkie, wow !
Freddie's dead
Freddy, Freddy, Freddy, Freddy !
Freddie's dead, huh !
So sad what happened to Freddie. Hopefully I'll find some hapier songs one day that remind me of him...
I always thought Elton Johns Candle in the Wind fit Freddie. The part that says, Never knowing who to cling to when the rain set in.
Anna I think that song fits him to it is so beautiful.
I love it.
You know that just reminded me of something isn't good bye england's rose the tune of candle in the wind?
And look at the similarities between Freddie and Diana
They were both beloved Icons if you will Lonely and in bad marriages, children were involved and they both tried desperately to get attention and it failed how sad
I know they never knew each other but i bet they do now in Heaven
kriziazafiro 07-02-2002, 01:23 PM If you search for tenderness
It isn't hard to find
You can have the love you need to live
But if you look for truthfulness
You might just as well be blind
It always seems to be so hard to give
Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honest is hardly ever hear
And mostly what I need from you.
I can always find someone
To say they sympathize
If I wear my heart out on my sleeve
But I don't want some pretty face,
to tell me pretty lies,
I want is someone to believe...
I can find a lover
I can find a friend
I can have security
Until the bitter end
Anyone can confort me
with promises again,
I know, I know.....
When I'm deep inside of me
Don't be too concerned
I won't as for nothin' while I'm gone
But when I want sincerity
Tell me, where else can I turn
Because you're the one I depend upon.
MariposaLKB 07-02-2002, 03:49 PM Thanx mucho, Kriziazafiro, for reminding me of a song that I have always loved, and of the fact that I when heard it--for the first time in years--while I was it Florida in November, my mind immediately went to Freddie! Another perfect song for him!
Cheryl Harrell 07-02-2002, 04:51 PM Wow, I haven't heard that Billy Joel song in yrs...
