Universal Studios announced at Comic-Con today that AMC’s "The Walking Dead" will be a feature themed attraction at the 2012 Halloween Horror Nights events.

Halloween Horror Nights is a monthlong event every year at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Orlando — they work with the best in the biz to create entertaining, horrifying Halloween experiences that are wildly popular.

The seasonal events feature a series of themed creepy haunted mazes. In the past, themes have included horror movie staples like Scream, The Thing, SAW, Friday The 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Nightmare on Elm Street, House of 1,000 Corpses and Hostel.

"The Walking Dead" Attack Universal Studio's Terror Tram
Wednesday, August 8, 2012
by Alyse Wax

In addition to "The Walking Dead" maze that will debut at this year's Universal Studio Halloween Horror Night, the dead will attack the tram. In order to cram more scares into the annual Halloween event, Universal Studio has added scares to the tram ride, and this year, "The Walking Dead" invade and make guests come face-to-face with legions of the undead.

John Murdy, Creative Director, Halloween Horror Nights, said:

“The ‘Terror Tram’ is one of the most popular Halloween Horror Nights attractions since it’s the only time people can walk on the historic Universal backlot where the horror film genre was born. The juxtaposition of the backlot’s rural setting amid a small town devastated by a horrific plane wreckage complements the TV series’ sets almost to a tee and provides the ideal backdrop to showcase the ‘walkers’ from AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ on a grand scale.”

Halloween Horror Nights: We Get a Preview of The Walking Dead: Dead Inside
by Ryan Turek
September 07, 2012

One of television's biggest horror hits is coming to life at Universal Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights. "The Walking Dead" will be invading the park later this month, assaulting attendees on two fronts: With the maze, The Walking Dead: Dead Inside, and the Terror Tram tour.

This week, creative director John Murdy took select members of the press - including Shock Till You Drop - on a tour of the maze.

In our tour, we learned:

- Dead Inside is based on the first two seasons of the hit AMC series.

- Greg Nicotero of KNB EFX is in constant contact with Murdy and watching over the maze's production.

- Murdy and his team were able to use the same FX molds and sound effects as those used on the show.

- Your journey through the maze begins with the hospital Rick Grimes wakes up in and ends at Herschel's barn.

- You'll meet "bicycle girl." Other highlights include the tank sequence (complete with half-eaten horse), the deer-eating zombie and the well zombie.

- Murdy originally wanted to recreate the car-riddle highway from season 2, but pulling it off proved to be too ambitious. It would take up way too much space.

- Over 2,000 prosthetic appliances will be used on this maze alone through the event's run from September through October.

- The maze will incorporate the smell of decaying corpses.
