I dunno whether or not to be ecstatic for the Pyramid's return!

The big questions will be:
#1 How will Mike Richards fare as a host? As a producer he rubbed many game show fans the wrong way w/ how he's producing TPiR.
#2 Will the celebrities they book be able to know how to play the game?

#1) If he is one of the producers that got Lanisha Cole fired from TPIR, then I have an issue with him already.

#2) LMBO at your question. Very good question! I hope there are no cheesy celebs playing and hope there are no bombards of reality celebs like Snooki trying to play.

here are the official rules to GSN's revival of "The Pyramid":http://buzzerblog.com/2012/07/exclusive-info-gsn-pyramid

from Buzzerblog:"Players begin with $10,000 in their Winner's Circle bank at the beginning of each round. everytime they earn 7 out of 7 in 30 seconds. they add $5,000 to their bank and earn $500 in bonus cash to keep no matter their results in the rest of the program. So again, no Mystery 7's,7-11's.The bonuses contestants earn comes from getting
all seven in the main game. A carry over from Donny Osmond Pyramid is their pass rule. When you pass a word in the game, it is out of play but if times remains, you are allowed
to come back to it once you get through the rest of the list.If it is someone's last turn at the game but only two are needed to tie and three to win, they will still be allowed to play
up to all seven to earn another bonus and add to the Winner's Circle Bank.Once they make it to the Winner's Circle, the consolation prizes carry over from the pilot aas well: $100/$200/$300/$400/$500/$750. The show has no returning champions so "score money" is not an issue.

A new feature of "The Pyramid" original from any previous version, is the tiebreaker. I like to refer it as the "infinite tiebreaker." In the 1980s, when contestants ties at the end of a game, they had to get up 7 more words right in 30 seconds. If they did that, opponents not only had to get all 7 but they also had to beat the time. that is not the case in this version. enough material is prepared in this tiebreaker so that if "words beginning with C" is chosen, contestants can go through as many words as are there to achieve the highest score possible.Seven is not a limit in the round, contestnat try to get as many from an "infinite" list as they can in 30 seconds. Mixed reviews have been given to the writing, but the
overall sense is that it is definetly an upgrade from the 2002-04 version."

so Pyramid fans how do you like the rules for GSN's The Pyramid? do you think there great,do they suck,or do you wish that their were any elements that should have been borrowed from the 70s or 80s incarnations of Pyramid.

let me know from your comments below. Thanks!

From Buzzerblog...

Video: GSN previews a round of "The Pyramid"

It's pretty safe to say that GSN's upcoming revival of The Pyramid has been on of the years most anticipated game shows. Hosted by Mike Richards, the classic format originally hosted by Dick Clark begins Monday, September 3rd, at 6:00PM ET. GSN has had a good amount of success in this slot, successfully launching Catch 21, and The Newlywed Game to the top of the networks ratings here. It's looking like a pretty decent chance that this will do the same. This weekend GSN posted a short clip of one round of play. In this clip we see Chandra Wilson from ABC's Grey's Anatomy try to get a perfect 7 score and earn the contestant another $5,000 for his Winner Circle's jackpot. you'll get a preview of the graphics, the game, and Mike.

Are you any more excited after seeing this clip?

My review:

Gameplay: is good as it should be.

Cast and crew: Mike Richards was a decent host and was very competent here.

Execution: Not much to gripe about here though some of the writing has left to be desired and the judging does seemed to be lax w/ forms of the word (happy/happiness) and giving credits for saying the essence of the answer and so far consistent, something that irked the hell out of me w/ Donnymid.

Bells and Whistles: the set is flashy and a nice modern twist on the '80s set without it coming off as too futuristic (I'm talking to you, Donnymid) and while the updated theme is a remixed version of the '80s theme, it's not too bad by any means and it least it sounds like a game show theme, unlike that techno club mess of a theme song that was Donnymid. But not w/o its demerits. The biggest demerit has to be the new clock sound effect in the maingame. I mean I get that it's supposed to be a part of the game but they could've afforded to turn the volume down a few notches with that and as I said about the writing style before.

Overall: one of GSN's better revivals and IMO executed better than the 2011 Lingo (which had too many good-bads bad-goods).

So, over all, it was decent. I was going to check it out but kept forgetting it was on. Btw, one thing I dont like is bells and whistles. Im not into having lasers and spotlights and whatnot. Just give me the show. That was a problem with Donny's Pyramid. I also think that was a problem for American Gladiators. When it was revived with Layla Ali and Hulk Hogan, it just wasnt the same. All those lasers and spotlights just annoy me for some reason.

Im as big a wrestling fan as there is and even with Hulk Hogan as host, I just couldnt get into it. Watch the original American Gladiators. Watch Dick Clark's Pyramid on GSN. No fluff, no annoying pyro and stuff. Just the show. Period.

From Buzzerblog:

The final two weeks of "The Pyramid" are quickly approching and we have some scheduling information. This week finishes out with Samantha Harris and Melissa Peterman. Next week starts with one extra new episode for that week, then four episodes of Dot Marie and Oscar Nunez. The final week. Starting October 22, is one to look out for...in some ways good, in some ways bad. Monday will see and extra new epsiode with Kate Flannery and Jim O'Heir. Tuesday through Thrusday is bad. The infamous week with Nick and Aida Tuturro will air. Five episodes were taped, but at least two were such trainwrecks that the copies of them are likely buried behind Game Show Networks headquaters right now. I'm sure the ones that do air won't be lacking in the "WTH?" factor either. That Friday, the last of the 40 episodes to be aired. will be a treat as one of the three pilot episodes wil be airing. Chandra Wilson and Yvette Nicole Brown will be on the same episode, one of the ones that got GSN to go through with a season pickup. That will be fun to watch and to play "spot the difference."

All you need to say is opposite of sad is ???/ . The money round I felt was simpler than the old days . I just felt the stars of the 80's were so better versed. THEn again I have seen the older versions so much, so this new show is hum drum.

...and by "The Money Round", I think you mean "The Winner's Circle" right Coffeecup?

GSN did a Grade A job in trying to revive this popular game show favorite, but it doesn't look like it's getting renewed. Too bad, I liked it.

yeah I know, the set, gameplay and music was a far better improvement over Osmond's ''millionaire-ish'' version and Mike Richards wasn't too bad of a host.

but I really think thaat if they should of had a tournament format like the other previous incarnations did, bring back the 7-11 and Mystery 7 bonuses and bring back some classic celebrities from other previous versions of Pyramid like Betty White or Vicki Lawrence for example along with the new celebrities I think they show could have been saved for another season but then again that's just me.
