Judd Hirsch- He's such a great actor and underrated funny man

Marilu Henner- One of the sexiest women on TV in the 70's

Workplace comedy- One of the best all time!

Danny DeVito- The George Costanza of the 70's! lol

Also the same writers who worked on Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda shows.

Happy viewing, Sol!! The first season is very good, but I don't think it really starts to hit its stride until the second season, when Rev. Jim (Christopher Lloyd) becomes a regular character.

Here is series star Judd Hirsch commenting on some Taxi bloopers in a Dick Clark bloopers show:

Ehhh, I was never much of a Latka fan myself. But he's tolerable in small doses, and due to Andy Kaufman's 7 out of every 13 episodes deal, he's not on as much as the others.

Plus he's not in every episode.

Season 1: Latka's in 15 episodes (out of 22)
Season 2: Latka's in 15 episodes (out of 24)
Season 3: Latka's in 14 episodes (out of 22, which includes 2 eps that aired in season 4)
Season 4: Latka's in 13 episodes (out of 22)
Season 5: Latka's in 11 episodes (out of 22)

As hard as it is to believe Andy Kaufman was the most popular actor on Taxi during it's early years. He was everywhere on television. He had specials...he was a regular on latenight television. I have to admit he was one of my favorite actors on it at the time but I was only 13. lol

I remember I was in 12th grade in 1984 and Andy Kaufman had died. Somebody, and I never knew who. actually put R.I.P. Andy Kaufman up on the blackboard. That's how I found out he died. So sad that he died so young.

How are you enjoying the show so far? I loved it; it's easily in my Top Ten sitcoms list. Great writing and acting...some moments I'll never forget. And it could make you think and cry while you were laughing, too...you don't see that anymore.

I remember watching the live "Fridays" show were Kaufman and Richards did their infamous "hoax" fight...I really thought they were fighting!

Not a huge fan of Kaufman myself...he was interesting but really though he just provoked people more than made them laugh. I did really enjoy "Man on the Moon", though...really an insightful movie, and a rare Jim Carrey film that I liked!

I honestly think today's sitcom writers should be forced to watch 1970's sitcoms to find out what good writing was all about. lol

Good question. I never thought Fridays was as good as SNL, but it was easily as good as and probably better than MAD TV...and most of the people on it went onto some measure of success elsewhere. Larry David, Michael Richards, Melanie Chartoff, Brandis Kemp, Darrow Igus, Rich Hall...some good talent there.

Looking back, there was a LOT of drug humor in that show, though, lol.

I saw Man on the Moon at the theater the day it came out. Very interesting movie...and obviously, a must-see for Taxi fans.

One of my favorite episodes was from the second season, "Nardo Loses Her Marbles". It's a very real episode about Elaine, stressed from working two jobs and raising two young kids by herself, deciding to visit a therapist. After (barely) holding it together, she finally breaks down in tears at his office. Very realistic and very touching...not to mention that this is the first episode where we see a kiss between Alex and Elaine!!

Mary Woronov can be seen in a tiny cameo in this ep in the gallery. She would go on to co-star in one of the greatest dark comedies of all time - Eating Raoul.

When I was 19 I became a big fan of his and bought some of his specials from tape trading newsgroups and bought the 2 books about him and only taped episodes of Taxi that featured him in a main role. I even set up a website dedicated to him. He was an original.

That's true, he was mainly a provoker, but he always managed to make me laugh. I always loved his performances on SNL. My favorite was probably when he read the Great Gatsby and the people were getting pissed and he asked if they would rather hear a record and they said yes so he plays the record and it's him reading the Great Gatsby right where he left off.

It's always worth the price of admission whenever Rhea Perlman (of course, the real-life Mrs. Danny DeVito) showed up on Taxi. Sweet, nice girl Zena Sherman was a far cry from caustic Carla Tortelli (Cheers), which speaks to Ms. Perlman's range as an actress.
