"Nice clear footage of Life in America during the 1970's"

You always get a nice shot of life going on in NYC where you see people walking across the street or driving down the street at a time when I didn't exist or was only a baby. It's just so fun to be able to see LIFE on a city street with older cars which I never seen on sitcoms I watched in the past. Now I;m not sure if you see this type of thing on the NYC sitcoms below

I keep hitting the pause button when they show certain footage because it's just something I normally don't see when watching a sitcom. You definitely don't see that on shows like

Add Barney Miller to that list, because aside from the opening credits, not much stock footage if any is shown.

Taxi will definitely give lots of NYC vista. Great pick Brian. Love it's great opening.

I still haven't seen the uncut version of the wedding because there is a scene in the closing credits with her running down a new york street that I didin't see in the episode

The one season Bridget Loves Bernie, is another show that shows NYC in the early '70's.

I believe that in one of the seasons opening segments you can see a Woolworth's in downtown NYC. I appreciate it more now that Woolworth's is gone.

The difference here could be that the above listed shows were videotaped, while Rhoda was filmed. Could be filmed TV shows have a higher budget than taped? Don't know, but you're definitely right. I don't recall a lot of 70s sitcoms featuring exterior shots of the places where the scenes take place. Rhoda was ahead of its time in that regard and didn't have too many peers in the 70s.

I always felt like Rhoda would have been perfectly fine as is if it aired on tv in the 1990s. It's definitely got a 90s sitcom feel to it, or it could even very well air today.

Rhoda to me was definitely a cut above standard sitcom fare of the 70s.
