One Day at a time for me. There are many station that have picked up the old school Nick at Nite torch. Check them out.

Well, Antenna TV is the network that does that. They have a few rare gems on their channel. Now, they don't have everything but it is a great channel with variety.

That would be cool; to have some of these shows available on On Demand and then you could watch them whenever you wanted to. Actually that's a great idea.

It would be big for about a week, and then the nostalgia would wear off. Just look at "The 90's Are All That" block on Teen Nick - big for a week, and then down sharply. Teenagers and twenty year olds who grew up on the shows would rather go out then watch television.

That would be cool; to have some of these shows available on On Demand and then you could watch them whenever you wanted to. Actually that's a great idea.

You know, I'll be Switzerland on this subject. What I mean is that, yes there are a lot of channels out there now that have classic tv. Antenna TV, ME-TV, The Hub, even RTV. How would a new classic channel be any different then the others? Although...

I would like to see another old, classic channel. That channel would be uncut. That would be nice. I mean I've been watching "Caroline in the City" on the TV Guide Network but it's kind of distracting since you can't see the whole screen. It would be nice to be able to go through them On Demand and just watch them uncut.

In this day and age where over-advertising(and other things of course) have ruined television probably the only way you'll get a channel like that is it would have to be commercial free.--There actually is 1 channel like that for TV shows,the commercial free Encore Westerns Channel.It's a great channel if you like westerns. And I concur there should be a lot more GOOD classic channels,there really should be 5 or more Antenna/Me-TV type stations.

By the way for those that don't know this already,to show you how TV has changed in America.--Before cable became popular, channels whether they were local channels and so on used to play re-runs of many older shows and they ran them in order,did not skip episodes etc.They did not or hardly edit the shows either.And of course you did not pay a penny to view those stations because they were free.

Unfortunately, I think the time for a new, dedicated Classic TV cable channel (as opposed to local, over-the-air subchannels like RTV, MeTV and AntennaTV) has long passed. I don't work in the business, but it's pretty clear that it is very expensive to set up a new cable network and get major cable and satellite providers to carry it, especially one built around niche programming (regardless of whether that niche consists of Classic TV, golf, music videos, gardening, game shows, or what have you).

Look at all the specialty channels that used to be unique and worthwhile 10--20 years ago, which have now devolved and strayed from their original themes:

--not to say that there aren't, in some cases, some worthwhile newer programming on these, but they are a far cry from what they once were, and from what made you (if you were around and making these decisions back then) want to get the channels in the first place. They now are increasingly like mirror images of each other, playing mainly reality series, reruns of very recent TV series, the same bunch of uber-popular post-1980 movies, and maybe a handful of super-perennial classic-era TV shows (I LOVE LUCY, STAR TREK, THE BRADY BUNCH, SCOOBY DOO), all built around whatever new series they are producing and promoting.

I also have a feeling that, in a few years, AntennaTV, MeTV, et al, will either morph into what these cable channel have become, or will just be dropped in favor of cheaper/more lucrative 'home shopping' or 'lifestyle' programming.

The bright side is, I think we're seeing the decline of 'channels' and 'networks' in general; lots of people (like Regulus) are cutting their cable, due to the expense, the lack of programming they really want to see, and the inability to be able to choose to pay for their channels ala carte. I say 'bright side', because I think streaming services (along with DVD and Bluray) are rapidly becoming, more-and-more, our new 'channels' of choice.

Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Roku and others are continuing to make in-roads... original programming is starting to be made for them, but since it's all non-linear and 'on demand' (unlike old channels, which had a set 24 hours to fill), the new stuff doesn't push out the older/classic stuff (unless the license to a show or movie runs out and isn't renewed). You subscribe to one or a couple of streaming services, for far less money than any cable/satellite service charges, and you build your own schedule of what you want to watch, the TV equivalent of a cafeteria. In most cases, without commercials, edits, station bugs, pre-emptions, Viacom-vs-DirecTV type power plays... all the things that bug us about the state of broadcast/cable TV today. Also, I think it's much cheaper for the studios to do things this way, rather than the old way of running an actual network that is now struggling to hold onto an ever-dwindling audience.

Hopefully, more of the neglected, obscure and short-lived series (from all eras) will eventually make their way to streaming/download --if they don't make it to disc-- in the future, rather than sitting and rotting in the studio vaults. I could see this happening, but probably not until individual major studios set up their own streaming and/or downloading services, which is probably their next move, after the Manufacture-On-Demand DVD-R services, like the Warner Achive Collection.

Even without streaming factored in, so many of us (the enthusiasts, anyway) have so much on legit & bootlegged DVD/Bluray, DVD-R and downloaded files that we have better and more diverse programming than any channel could ever acquire and deliver to the narrowest niche demographic of all: YOU. :)

Its rare to find anything good on television these days i find myself flipping the channel all day long trying to find something entertaining to watch for atleast 30 minutes but no luck, Yeah nick at nite was the bomb 11 or 12 years ago good ol days i like the summer block party summer, i would not mind having a channel that plays the same episode 5 times in a row everyday.

I will say that a lot of the channels have strayed away from there original themes. Dr. Loveless, when you mention about how ME-TV, Antenna TV etc. might turn into lifestyle channels etc. there have been people, at least on this board, who hate lifestyle channels. It was mentioned in a previous thread.

And as far as Hulu, Netflix etc., I could see that happening over time but you have to remember a lot of people probably dont know what Hulu is.

Its bad enough they charge astronomical amounts of money, its bad enough that the channels we get either cut up or skip episodes of shows we like. Its bad enough that we get channels we dont want over channels we want. Whats that old saying "the customer is always right?" I think the customers should fight back. I think people are getting fed up with giving in to the cable companies etc. Thats just my opinion and you may disagree with me which is fine.

The Pay-TV Companies cannot continue doing things the way they are. One cannot continue to raise prices AND lower the quality of their product and continue to get away with it. People are already pulling out, and the Pay-TV Companies respond by raising their prices and lowering their quality (By adding Commercials and littering the screens with on-screen advertising as well as the proliferation of "Reality" Programming). This is a :rip:DEATH SPIRAL:rip: folks, and if allowed to continue will only result in the whole shebang COLLAPSING LIKE A HOUSE OF CARDS! Only then will they realise what they did to themselves, and by then it will be too late.

The wonder years is the only show i want to see uncut on tv every channel that has picked this drama coming of age show in reruns has edit every part of the show like it was nothing, i hate when they do that just for the stupid commercial advertising.

Actually what is needed are separate Channels, one for each Decade. I've noticed that many Classic Channels try to include everything from the 50s to the 90s, and they end up spreading themselves thin. As for TV Shows that span the decades, I suggest what decade they started in would be what channel they are shown in. For example the TV Series Lassie, which spanned from 1954 to 1973, be placed on the 1950s channel.

A Lot of people will never have this channel. Those of us who live in rural areas that can't use antennas and those who live in areas where the stations just won't add it. My sister uses an antenna (she lives over a 1000 miles from me). But she said her 2 stations have refused to add it and retro.

Yes it does. We live so far from an actual big city that we can't pick up anything and have no cable either. A dish is our only option. We were told that if we had a 300 ft tower we could pick up channels but who can afford that.

Im in Boston, and from the website the closest state to have it is Conn. I don't think any of the other New England states have it either. I hope Mass will jump on board with it, more specificly Fios.
